Navy is considering a new role for its struggling LCS – high speed Marine transport! link LCS as high speed transport reminds me of Japanese No.1-class landing ship which were basically based on destroyer hulls and propulsion. And much like the Japanese high speed transports, it can't really carry heavy equipment like HIMARS batteries as per the new Marine operational paradigm. If built the LAW can do this albeit at speeds of a modern bulk carrier. In the end it all comes across as grasping for straws for badly built ships without a mission. Also the article hits the new Light Amphibious Warfare vessel (ie WWII style LST except more under gunned and unable to carry tanks), may be slow in entering service or not enter service at all.

The trimaran has always had that feel to it. I'm just surprised its taken so long to become a serious idea, its been mooted for a decade or so. |

Deep sea fishing yacht. Not even that they apparently have unsatisfactory sea keeping capabilities (I guess being a littoral ship and all that jazz). Best thing to do with an LCS is to recycle it into pots and pans. |

"…unable to carry tanks." Then it's a good thing the Marines are getting rid of their tanks. |
