Starting Oct. 3 through Dec. 26, the USPS will temporarily increase prices on all commercial and retail domestic packages due to the holiday season and anticipated uptick in mail volume. Those price increases will not affect international products.

Also, "the current standard for First Class Packages require 3-day service for any destination within the contiguous U.S. with a drive time greater than six hours. This is unattainable and forces us to rely on air transportation, yielding unreliable service. With this change, we will improve service reliability and predictability for customers while also driving efficiencies across the Postal Service network."

Now where have I heard that phrase before?

Unfortunately, they made a sweetheart deal with Amazon a couple of years ago which now probably drives all other decisions as it consumes a lot of man hours in labor.

The USPS made a $1.9 USD Billion profit off of Amazon in 2019 although Amazon has been moving to take more and more delivery internal so that will be dropping.

The GAO did a study on the Post Office in which the primary blame fell on Congress. Amazon isn't even close to the problems Congress has imposed.

Such Orwellian corporate nullspeak.

"The USPS made a $1.9 USD USD Billion profit off of Amazon in 2019"

…and they are still projected to lose 9.7 billion this year. There's so many issues with USPS, Congress, etc., that I'm not sure it will ever get fixed.

Ah, the USPS, redefining the meaning of "service" and NOT in a good way.

Still, I guess they are a necessary evil, since otherwise UPS' and Fed Ex's prices would be even higher than they ARE already today.

To top it all off, USPS, FedEx, DHS, and UPS are opening Drop Box/Pick Up locations all over the place so you can go and pick up your package instead of it being delivered to your door! This will have a big affect for those living in rural locations as the delivery folks find it more cost effective for you to pick up your packages rather then the delivery services bare the cost of delivering them to you.

Porch pirates, too.

Amazon abuses the USPS. UPS and FEDEX stopped messing with Amazon when they gave them all the crap in the rural areas. It costs more for the rural carriers (sometimes up to 3 trips) back to the PO because the packages blow out the rural mail carrier cars. Costing time and the carriers are not to go into overtime.
The Union forced this sweetheart deal per USPS members I know.. The USPS should raise the crap out of Amazon.

Amazon abuses the USPS.

The USPS would actually be in much worse shape without Amazon and the profit it generates. Unfortunately, Amazon is doing their level best to eliminate the use of the USPS through internal resources and third parties.

Here is a link to the raw data from the FOIA documents that were used by the various news entities to determine how much profit was generated on nearly $4 USD Billion in gross revenue.

And a couple of fact checks on the persistent myth.

I live in a very rural area by any standard and all my Amazon deliveries (including a GMT Game today) come by UPS or FedEx.

The problem with the USPS is not the USPS its the federal reserve, Same thing is happening to 1000's of other companies that have pension plans. It is also happening to state govenments, and retired people all over.

No company even the USPS can cope with the Federal reserve inflating the money supply at the rate it has been the last couple decades.Only the US govenment can print their own money for free. States cant, companies cant, even the USPS cant as they are self funding.

I for one like the post office. my packages come just as fast or faster as Fedex and USPS. And I have not had the problem with the Postal Service forging signatures saying Ive signed for a package when they just drop it on my door step and leave, Ive had UPS and Fedex do that to me several times, for some high dollar packages, that could easily been stolen. USPS has never done that to me, Yes I have had to go down to the post office and sign occasionally, which is preferable to me anyway.
