I know this question has been raised before, but I have yet to see any conclusive answer to the issue, so forgive me for raising it again in hopes that someone has gleaned more info in recent months! With the sad passing of Bill Rawkins last year, his excellent, lavishly-illustrated books/CDs on various Napoleonic uniforms went "off the market" almost immediately. I have several of them, and had been hoping to pick up a few more last year, before tragedy struck. Does anyone have any info on whether the CDs (or pdfs?) are going to be available again any time soon? I had heard that his family did not feel prepared to go ahead with selling them, but have they been acquired by anyone else? Are they likely to be? |

In January 2021, his step daughter confirmed the website was closed and that the family was not going to carry forward the work "Unfortunately, none of us know enough about the history to continue with his books". I've been trying to reach out. There's been no contact since May 2021. I'm willing to try to cobble together a full collection if possible and make them available. I have quite a few on cd and would certainly purchase some more |

While I think it would be great if someone could make sure that they are available again, would it not be legally questionable to just make them available without the consent of the estate? |
Prince of Essling | 11 Oct 2021 5:22 a.m. PST |
@Setsuko – indeed it would. |
ChaosMan | 13 Oct 2021 12:25 p.m. PST |
@Setsuko and @Prince of Essling -- There's zero interest in violating copyrights or doing something against the wishes of the estate. Another attempt is being made to contact Bill's step daughter who engaged in January. By saying "make available" I should have been clearer and noted that it would be in the context of getting any money back to the family or to a charity of their choosing, etc. If UK law is similar to the US, I'm presuming there's a 70 year life on the copyrights and they belong to the estate. In the meantime, happy to buy each ebook from the community at $20 USD/each to create a comprehensive collection. I'll post in the Market Board. |

@ChaosMan, An excellent call I wasn't expect anything less. The length of UK copyright is 70 years from the author's death. Full guidance at link If possible it would also be good to try and get hold of the uncompleted works but maybe that is "a bridge too far". Ian |
