I'm sure most frog gms have engaged in this a few times. Curious how you handle it.

It's pretty straightforward to just ask random riddles from the web, with experience points and treasure for getting it right, and death or at least attacks by monsters for getting it wrong. If the players are none top good at riddles, but their characters are brainy priests and wizards, I'll give mulligans based on high intelligence and wisdom.

Another way that I think is fun is to make it a true competition, with the GM answering random riddles for the monsters.

How do you do it?

I always write my own riddles, mostly with word play. The challenge is for the players, not the characters so much. Failure usually leads to denial of rewards or preventing access to restricted/other wise unreachable areas. On rare occasions, failure to solve riddles leads to traps, but not deadly ones.
