"US military is looking at the potential of an amphibious C-130 Hercules variant in support of AFSOC Like a giant Kraken, awaking from a lengthy slumber, America's global military might is slowly turning toward its main enemy, China. While the latest evidence of that is the newly revealed "Three Eyes" AUKUS pact, which will provide nuclear-powered submarines and technology to Australia, the renewed focus on Asia is affecting just about every arm of the US military. The UK also announced it will station two patrol vessels in the Indo-Pacific region for "at least the next five years" as part of the allied effort to check China's naval expansion…"

Actually Lockheed looked at an amphib Herc back in the 60s,even built a flying R/C model testbed but aircraft like that were low down on the list being SpecOps. And the test model looks a lot like the conceptual art in basic concept. So nothing new under the sun. |

Should get the Russians to build us some Caspian Sea Monsters, at a discount for a volume purchase. Could use some of their largest hovercraft too, instead of the aircraft. A bit stealthier, still pretty fast, and perhaps a better option, since they can land tanks, ifvs, and armored cars/wheeled apcs too. The Russians need money, so perhaps they'll play ball, since this would help keep China's rise in check a bit, which should be a plus for them too. |
