How long has it been since you last committed to back a crowdsourced military wargaming project?

Lascaris15 Sep 2021 3:51 p.m. PST

Very loosely defining military wargaming as STL files for a 28mm Type S Traveller scout ship then it would be about a month. Otherwise, never.

Um… about an hour? I may have a problem.

rustymusket15 Sep 2021 4:11 p.m. PST

I never have done it. Nothing has been enough of a desire to prompt me to join in.

A couple of days ago I backed TwoHourWargames Kickstarter for their newest 5150 SciFi combat rules.

Berzerker7315 Sep 2021 4:24 p.m. PST

3 months ago for Fighters of the Pacific

Think it was Bones V.

Stryderg15 Sep 2021 4:33 p.m. PST

A few months ago. Simple SPI type wargame for $1 USD, I think.

A year ago spring. The new HeroQuest from Hasbro. It should arrive next month.

pvernon Supporting Member of TMP15 Sep 2021 4:40 p.m. PST

A few months, how many? uhhhh not sure. STL files foe Star Gate" figures.

McWong7315 Sep 2021 4:42 p.m. PST

48 hours, the He Man boardgame. Definitely been burnt big time on several though.

Slightly over four months ago – yet another regimental level Gettysburg board game.

Wackmole915 Sep 2021 4:50 p.m. PST

Early last year.

Never have.
When I commit to buy something, I want it by Thursday.

Wargamer Blue15 Sep 2021 5:27 p.m. PST

3 March 2018. War and Empire III West Wind/Forged in Battle. Still not fulfilled on the rulebook.

never

Yesterday I backed my first one ever. 6mm World War 2 from a reputable outfit.

Gokiburi15 Sep 2021 5:46 p.m. PST

The last kickstarter that I backed was a setting book for the RPG "Troika!" in april, but that was $5 USD for the PDF, which delivered a few weeks later.

The last major one was the Battletech Clan Invasion in august 2019 (I only pledged for Inner Sphere mechs, but still spent a fair bit), which delivered early this month.

I actually wasn't kidding. I backed Anycubic's latest 3D resin printer this morning!

machinehead Supporting Member of TMP15 Sep 2021 6:00 p.m. PST

Never. I am not about to send someone money in the hopes that they might produce what I want.

Chimpy15 Sep 2021 6:06 p.m. PST

I pledged to the Brittania Boardgame kickstarter and then covid hit. I got the game eventually and am very happy with it even though it had a few less of some and more pieces of other than the rules stated. Yes I counted them all.

Now all I need is another 3 players who are willing to commit to the time to play a full game.

myxemail15 Sep 2021 6:21 p.m. PST

I have yet to ever do so. Mostly because I have not had the time to notice many announcements or solicitations, nor to actually look into the details

McWong7315 Sep 2021 6:52 p.m. PST

That's a lovely machine javelin, but a tiny print bed. I was briefly tempted by the Elegoo Jupiter KS, but its at the other end of the spectrum (thing has a beast of a print bed).

cloudcaptain15 Sep 2021 7:00 p.m. PST

Few weeks…been burned a few timed but all in all it has been awesome.

pzivh43 Supporting Member of TMP15 Sep 2021 7:03 p.m. PST

Jut last week. One for 20mm printed modern Brits and another for some fantasy figures.

Ed Mohrmann Supporting Member of TMP15 Sep 2021 7:13 p.m. PST

Never have – kind of like the OFM, I want it NOW,
and prefer to buy off the shelf in the FLGS.

Personal logo miniMo Supporting Member of TMP15 Sep 2021 7:58 p.m. PST

2 months ago for RPG — Fantasy Trip Fanzine.

3 months ago for board game and possible miniatures campaign engine — Napoleon 1815.

3 months ago for board gaming — deluxe pieces for Ticket to Ride.

5 months ago for miniatures terrain — Napoleonic building STL files.

Length of time subject to change by the time the poll actually runs!

John the OFM15 Sep 2021 8:39 p.m. PST

I've seen Kickstarters that I might have bid on, but I lost interest in them a few months later.
As Vince MacMahon sez…. "I wish them well in their future endeavors."
Vito Corleone said much the same thing to Virgil, but that didn't work out well.

The Last Conformist15 Sep 2021 10:51 p.m. PST

If it counts, the PSC Britannia kickstarter. "Thanks" to the pandemic, I haven't got it to the table yet.

If not, the 3rd War & Empire one. I've painted a good chunk of the minis and used them in anger.

Prince Rupert of the Rhine15 Sep 2021 11:48 p.m. PST

A couple of years I dabbled a couple of times. Once for Ramshackle's Brotherhood of Iron and once for Knightmare miniatures old school chaos minis.

Both worked well enough, I got everything I backed for, but there is something about, getting all excited, for some new product and then waiting months to actually get it (and judging but stuff I've seen online getting isn't guaranteed) that put me off.

By the time both Kickstarters had arrived I'd moved onto other things I painted them both in the end. I guess I'm one of those guys who'd rather order his toys on Monday and have them in his sweaty hands by the following Wednesday.

Martin Rapier15 Sep 2021 11:57 p.m. PST

Never.

Like John, when I want to buy something, I want to just buy it.

Maybe a year back – Firelock Games pirate stuff. Last one I received was Privateer Press' Neo-mechanica.

Personal logo Stosstruppen Supporting Member of TMP16 Sep 2021 5:28 a.m. PST

February was the last one for me. A Solo Boxer Rebellion board game. I am waiting on that, and two others, some plastic Satyrs and Amazons, and the last Blood and Plunder one.

Personal logo Dentatus Sponsoring Member of TMP Fezian16 Sep 2021 5:48 a.m. PST

Two years. Maybe more.
Been burnt a couple times and am tired of waiting 1-2 years for delivery.
I've decided it's better to wait if/until the company brings an actual product to market.
In the meantime, I'll paint some of the minis I already own.

advocate16 Sep 2021 5:52 a.m. PST

2 months.
Provided a Eurogame of Napoleons' Wars counts. Yes, I have used the apostrophe correctly: there is a game for both Napoleons (I and III).

advocate16 Sep 2021 6:00 a.m. PST

I'm not sure my first figure Kick-starter would have counted: figures for Noggin the Nog. Including guards who are really not very military at all – one is asleep leaning on his spear.

Never a gaming KS. Backed one, around 6+ years ago for a motorcycle automatic brake light, but I pulled out of that after they posted a 6-month delay. I lost confidence, and they offered full refunds, so I took it. Ended up buying a totally different product in the same venue, last year.

I did help run a KS, around three years ago. It was a modest success, but happily, everyone got what they signed up for, two months before the promised delivery schedule, and they were all satisfied. I was not the owner, I just assisted him in running it. Interesting experience. Cheers!

sgt Dutch Supporting Member of TMP16 Sep 2021 8:02 a.m. PST

6 months ago. Some are hit or miss. One has to look close at the delivery times. One KS the owner of the KS filled customer orders first. He had my money and it took months to get my items.

farnox16 Sep 2021 10:48 a.m. PST

5 months. I'm still waiting on one I backed 2 years ago.

Bashytubits16 Sep 2021 3:16 p.m. PST

I have only ever done one, with the now defunct Defiance games. After that experience I am staying away from kickstarters.

The Tin Dictator16 Sep 2021 5:01 p.m. PST

Never.

My last two were a Keith Rocco book on the French army of the Hundred Days back in May and some 28mm French Emigre miniatures (and supporting Chouans) for the 1795 Quiberon campaign back in June.

Looking forward to both in the next month or so!

More Napoleonic buildings STLs coming to KS in the next few weeks for Borodino and the Peninsula — so I'll be backing that one, and probably before the poll runs!
