Once upon a time many years ago I stumbled across a scenario for the battle of St Privat in the first edition Volley and Bayonet rules. This was a decade before I ever considered gaming the FPW.

With the ongoing release of the Perry Bros FPW minis I've decided to work on gaming that portion of the larger Gravellotte-St Privat battle.

I'd like to focus non just the actions of the Saxon 12th Corps & Prussian Guard Corps.

I'm hoping someone has a good scenario for that battle that includes an Orbat as well as a map.

All I currently own is the Osprey book on the wider battle. Thanks for any tips on warggaming sources for strictly gaming the St. Privat action.

Cheers.

The "1870" rules have detailed scenarios for every major Acton of the FPW.

Hi Martin, I couldn't remember what scale 1870 is. I wasn't sure how well it would convert to 28mm armies.

I think I actually have a copy of that stored somewhere so I'll try to dig it out.

Thanks.

Thanks for reminding me about the St. Privat scenario.I have a copy of that first edition V&B. Would you like me to scan it for you?

The scenarios in 1870 are scale agnostic. They just show the terrain and units.

I was unable to locate my old 1870 copy but Nick was kind enough scan me the scenario info from Volley & Bayonet.

That scenario has both a decent Orbat (including morale ratings),and a decent map.

That should be enough info get a scenario made once I receive BBB next week.

I'll try to remember to post my thoughts on the rule set next week.

Been using "They Died for Glory" for years. It is my favorite set of rules. I was playing FPW before it was cool. Big battles, so I recommend 15mm.

The Perry figures are great but how much of these battles can you do in 28mm? You need 28mm buildings and terrain. I can see using those figures in skirmish play.

OC, whose minis do you like in 15mm?

Too true! 15mm are definitely the preferred way to game FPW battles in total or even in part.

I've done them in 15mm before though which is why I'd like to try something with 28s.

I'm not interested in skirmish games so that means choosing a focal point of one of the big battles to concentrate on.

That's why I like St Privat. The numbers are manageable. Perhaps the toughest part of the battle is having a table big enough to fit the 4 villages present at the Battle.
