FYI: Cannabis and THC have been linked to increase risk of schizophrenia and psychosis: link

As I said, it's a fool's gamble.

I've first hand experience with a flat mate years and years ago, of the correlation between pot and psychosis, but even that article says there's little known if it's a causation- but the numbers certainly support that something bad can happen. I've also seen very highly talented people go backwards once they developed a habit, but equally as many (inc. myself) where there's limited to no impact. I feel you can be pro pot and still recognise the risks, and like everything in life having the right level of discipline and self moderation, the risks can be alleviated. Of course, how many have that ability…

If you want to see how drugs can make you stupid, watch the entertaining documentary of the 1960's "The Magic Bus". I don't think they were acting to the camera, I think they were actually stoned out of their gourds. Another reason I'd never use the stuff… ;-)

I'm not sure it's possible to say there was "no impact" from drug use for any person without doing extensive studies before hand of the user's mental abilities and health prior to drug use, and then doing comparative studies after the use has occurred and ended. Since such a study is probably impossible except by accident (or seriously risky if intentional), there's really no way to know if drugs have negatively and permanently altered an individual user's mental abilities. The user may think they're fine, but they also may have lost abilities without knowing it, or suffered developmental delays or degradation unawares. Lingering effects, mental, emotional and physical, may remain of which the user isn't fully aware of the cause. Could the drug use increase the odds of dementia? Alzheimer's? Cancer? Long term memory loss? Altered emotional responses? Who can know?

It's foolish to mess with the brain any more than the lungs.

I feel that not enough research has been done on long term effects of constant use so who really knows what they might be.

… I decided not to clutter the boards more. If anyone wants to PM me with their email and how many thousand studies they would like, I can hook them up.

"Follow the science," right?
(That'll be the day…)

Much to do about nothing, particularly when there is alcohol and tobacco. I am sure that there are those who can sight the medical literature on the satanic evils of coffee, more Boogiemen nonsense

You must be a more attentive reader than I. I missed the word "evil" in every one of those studies. Care to point it out?

I never smoked anything, didn't see the need. But that is me …

I do however like smoked ham, bacon, chicken, turkey, etc.

Second-hand smoke tends to give me coughing attacks, so smoking anything myself is just about unthinkable.

I'll probably never try cannabis in edible form either, but that's mostly for lack of interest.

Only literally. About 30,000 feet and Mach 1.2 in a Northrop T-38 Talon.

Gamertom, are you talking about pot or the vaccine?

Touché 👍

dapeters15 Sep 2021 10:21 a.m. PST

Please don't get me wrong, like everything else there can be too much of a good thing. But if you enjoy coffee, drink it if you don't then don't.

I do know some older gamers and a game designer that smoke fairly regularly.

I have two friends that are VN vets that take a few tokes a day rather than drugs the VA wants to prescribe to them. One went through the entire battle of Hamburger Hill and another is a Corpsman that went on Force Recon patrols in the DMZ. It's not recreational but medicinal for them.

Legalized pot has not had the desired effects in CA. It's very hard to collect the tax revenues and the Feds don't allow credit card transactions unless that's been changed.

The idea was for small business and minorities to get the growing licenses, however, big money got behind some collectives and started buying up the licenses.

The legal stuff is pretty expensive so illegal weed undercuts them.
