So I've picked up the Commanders Edition of Battletech, Alpha Strike.

This is my first foray into Battletech. Finding Mechs was no problem but I could use a recommendation for both Urban Terrain and suitable Infantry for the game.

As always, thanks for ant tips.

I really liked the buildings I got from Brigade Models. Purchased the Desert Town Buildings, Dwellings, and Towers packs and together they made a very good-looking medium sized city.

Thanks Eumelius! They have some very nice stuff. Even a Monorail!

Cheap Buildings can be made from old Blister packaging and some spray paint.

Just rediscovered my love for Battletech after a 20+ year hiatus myself. Alpha Strike scratches the itch without needing an entire weekend to play. Here are a few more websites…

Ebay also has plenty of buildings for Battletech as well.

If you are more of the hands-on sort, here's some inspiration: link

I keep hearing and a few videos on Youtube talk of 40K players making a jump to BT, seems GW just irked off some players a bit too much finally.

I've only heard hear say of this, so is it true? Is BT making a return to it's glory days again?

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP07 Sep 2021 4:22 p.m. PST

I wasn't gonna touch that one Sargonarhes! I'm still a 40k player or at least I will be when I finish painting something.

I've seen those posts on YouTube too. It was one of those that got me watching BT Batreps.

Those lead me to picking up Alpha Strike. As much as I may enjoy BT I doubt it would ever replace GW games for me.

I'm into too many games by them. Kill Team, 40k 9th. Horus Heresy, Adeptus Titanicus, Space Hulk, not too mention I'm still patiently waiting for Battlefleet Gothic and Epic to come back.

No reason we/I can't enjoy both. But I totally see why people would drop GW.

I've been playing their games since 1987 so this is far from the first time I've seen people abandoning ship.

I'm toying with the idea too. So Alpha Strike is a good way back in? And you can get Battle Mechs in 6mm? Wow! Where do you find them?

Stryderg07 Sep 2021 5:06 p.m. PST

I think the official scale is 10mm, but with mechs on the field, does a few mm really matter?
Iron Wind Metals carries the official line of metal minis, but there a plenty of alternatives: Reaper's CAV, plastics from various kickstarters, STL files if you've got a 3d printer and some time, Etsy and Shapeways for print on demand. And of course, you can find paper flats to get you started.

Lowmoonman07 Sep 2021 5:24 p.m. PST

Catalyst is also wrapping up fulfillment of their Kickstart that funded plastic Battlements in packs of 4 ( or 5 for the Clans or 6 for co-star. While plastics were done before these are better quality and based on updated artwork. Some in retail now. Rest should be shortly.

Official scale is 1:285 so basically 6 mil but 10 would work. 15mm is a bit too large in my opinion.

Lowmoonman07 Sep 2021 5:38 p.m. PST

Sorry- to answer the original question: for infantry, Iron wind does some 6mm foot infantry. For battle armor iknow a lot of folks picked up the old clicky tech armor or infantry from Wiz Kids Mechwarrior and rebased them.

For terrain TT combat also does some interesting 10 MM terrain in MDF. Or you can look at their cardstock box buildings in the Cityscape set. Lots of buildings reasonably cheep if you don't mind the squares and rectangles.

See if you can find the Dropzone Commander Cityscape set. They also sell a great set of containers. It's 10mm, but works perfectly for Alpha Strike, which is hexless. ttcombat.com/products/cityscape

here are some 3D STL files for a urban scape.

For Terrain I'm cranking out tons of it on my 3d printer. There are a number of affordable resin printers that are basically plug and play. I did about four test prints to figure out the settings with the water soluble resin and o was up and running. I'm printing them faster than I can paint them.

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP13 Sep 2021 8:54 a.m. PST

I'm seriously starting to think about av3D printer. Thanks.

For buildings I can recommend many producers. You can mix even some WW2 buildings not only sci-fi. Scotia Grendel, Brigade Models, Daemonscape Miniatures, Vanguard Miniatures, Leven Models, CP Models, Ground Zero Games, Strato Minis Studio.
Most of the buildings are made from resin, with a few from metal. Sometimes they have additional metal parts (antennas and such). Brigade Models has the most extensive ranges of buildings. Some examples that I have painted are here: link

Thanks Valderian. I love the desert looking stuff.
