Just like it says, does anyone have a reliable source to buy all the different kinds of dice some games need in quantities without breaking the bank?

Grelber06 Sep 2021 8:39 p.m. PST

Chessex sells miscellaneous dice by the coffee mug full at conventions (like we've had any of these for a while). Of course, they want you to just scoop out a mug full of dice, so you will have all sorts of different colors and styles.

Amazon…lots of bulk dice choices; for example, a search for 16mm (1/2 inch plus dice:

Depending on color and type it's $10 USD to $15 USD for 100 dice.

I hit a couple of places. EAI has some other neat stuff for games.

Dollar Tree now sells 'RPG dice'!

Anyone know a company that sells small d10 dice?

Originally, I went with a Pound-O-Dice, from Chessex, around 10+ years ago, off of Amazon. There are better deals available, now. A couple of years ago, I bought around six RPG sets off of Wish: they took more than a month to arrive in the USA (see below), but the quality was excellent. You can also try Alibaba.com.

A friend ordered around $300 USD worth of dice sets off of Wish, but he never received them. He was planning to run a dice game, at a convention, with inexpensive dice sets as prizes for players; there were chances of winning more expensive prizes, as well, but all players were guaranteed to win at least a complete RPG Dice Set, for the cost of playing. I ordered six sample sets, first, and they arrived (s-l-o-w boat from China, literally -- took six weeks to arrive). Unfortunately, he never followed up with his CC company, and it was a total loss for him. The Wish prices are hard to beat, and the quality, of the sample sets I ordered, were quite good. I even ordered a bronze metal set, which appeared to be excellent, but I never rolled them much, so I can't say if they were good, long term, or not. Stay on top of your payment company, if your order gets lost (more than 8 weeks)… Cheers!

Do yourself a favor, and buy a Plano box, to store your dice in, sorted by type.

I watch my friends pour out their bag of dice, then they pick through the pile of mixed dice, to find the particular type they need for each roll. It causes unnecessary delays in the games we play (both RPG sessions, and bucket-O-dice games, especially). They tease me about my OCD dice 'box', but when I need to roll a particular die, or when I need to roll 30 x d6's, I am quick to grab exactly what I need, without delay. I want to burn through as many game turns as humanly possible, in the gaming time we have, to get as far as possible, in the game.

I watch my friends wait until the DM/GM calls on them, to make their rolls. Me, I roll my dice immediately, so when the DM/GM calls on me, I share my results, and they move onto the next player, within seconds, not minutes…

In the back of Gary Gygax's 1978 AD&D Player's Handbook, he admonishes gamers to be organized, to pay attention, to be on the ball, and ready to go. He warns against wasting everybody's time by not following along, not having your ducks in a row, so to speak. I have found that to be excellent advice, in, and outside of, gaming. My gaming time is limited, so I manage it carefully. YMMV. Cheers!

For piles of dice,

I find education/home education supply firms to be a good source. You can find physical stores, but the on-line ones tend to be lower cost. Here is one:

With 600 D6 for about $70 USD

But also, all kinds of odd-ball dice, like blanks and dice within dice:

By the time I got everything sorted, I had two sweater boxes of dice I can barely lift, organized by color, shape and markings. The only dice anyone's likely to sell me from here on out will have fancy logos on them--usually custom.

Tony,

For plain D6s, you can get them at your local Dollar Tree store.

I second Bryan's recommendation about education/home education stores, either actual or on-line.

Good luck!

Yep, sometimes you can find packs of 20 dice… :-)

Ebay

Hmm. That's interesting.

The last bucket-o-dice game I played was Chainmail. I think 5th edition? And all we needed was d6s.

Now there are bucket-o-multi-sided-dice games?

Please enlighten me.

There are a number of bucket-o-multi-sided-dice games. Some good and some bad. One of the good ones is The Sword and the Flame. Each figuring firing rolls a 20 sided die and support weapons throw multiple die. So when a unit fires there can be quite the number of 20 siders.

I buy dice from Wish regularly. They're cheap enough that I have sets for every game I play, sorted by type and color in bread boxes.

Dice Shop Online has been a go to for me over the last year or so.

Just picked up 3 packs of RPG dice from the Dollar Tree today.

On a similar, may-not-last-long, basis:

A company called American Science & Surplus is selling three sets of 7 (so 21 poly-dice) for $7.50 USD

That sounds good.

Ebay- Usually from China, takes about a month to get here, but have alwasy gotten them and they are cheaper. They are all made there anyways, so might as well just buy them from there anyway. Everything on Amazon is from China mostly.

Mattw338512 Nov 2021 10:50 p.m. PST

Dollar tree is a good source of cheap D6s. You can get ten for a dollar. Long time ago you could get ten colored D6s for a dollar also.
