Sad tale behind this tank, an M4A3 76 of 12 RCA, 2e DB. This never did get as far as Paris alas. The commander named it after his brother, recently killed in action. Days before the Liberation of the capital it was hit multiple times by a German 37mm AA gun and then wrecked as the driver reversed it up a steep bank, into a tree. The poor commander had his head out of the turret to fight effectively, but was hit by a shell. The only photos of this tank are then a series of the wreck being progressively stripped, but every image shows the engine covers opened and that inspired this work, on a Dragon 1/72. If I was doing it again……I would do the engine bay better, it is too narrow and not sufficiently detailed. I thought it would be largely invisible. I must thank Marc 33594 for pointing me towards the most detailed Sherman I have ever seen (only after the engine was built and mounted of course. Sob) link The ultimate in modelling of this AFV in a diorama is seen on a French site. Even if you do not have a word of the language the photos and, by page 2, the modelling is superb. The one thing he did not do is open the engine hatches though….every detail is perfect otherwise. link I have spelt the name wrong in my heading and cannot now correct that. Z not S. Good job Braillestrike did it right!

Excellent work deadhead! That is also a great but sad story about this particular tank as well. |

Thanks for sharing this pic. Indeed, the story of the Zagrodskis is one of these inspiring tragedies that make the saga of the gars de Leclerc! |

Absolutely top notch work. You do a lot of 1/72 late war French tanks so this might interest you. Star Decals has just brought out these decal sets. link link |

It is very encouraging to see these. Star Decals did the same in 1/35 and I bought both sheets. They are excellent quality but, in the end, my M4A2 became Mort Homme courtesy of Braille Strike. As with many of their products these two in 1/72 were long unavailable but great to see them re-released. They have chosen well for topics. I already have La Moscowa, Flandres, Champaubert, Tarentaise and Brive la Gaillarde with Braille Strike decals, so "great minds do think alike" Many thanks. Next is an M4A4 of 1st Army, as 2e DB did not use the type. Snag is I need Type 49 tracks ordered today from Germany and decals from Brussels. At least I do have a Dragon tank here |
