Pete Atack and I met up at Heroes Retreat in San Antonio on Friday for what will be the first of many "Home&Away" matchups. This round Pete traveled from Austin to San Antonio for an afternoon of gaming. Right up front I must say it was absolutely a blast!! Great gaming, Great smack talk, and some wonderful discussions. We played two games – first MESBG 600pt and then a 6pt SAGA Age of Vikings.

Here is the Lord of the Rings game: Pete played his Mordor list and I played Gondor & Dol Amroth. The funny thing is in both games I had very strong archer elements and in both games did not register one kill by bow fire! We played scenario #9: Capture and Control, from the main rule book. The board had 5 objectives and warbands were placed either 12" or 12"-24" based on a die roll. We ended up with both armies set up in the middle half of the board.

Pete's use of Gothmog and a Mordor Troll was magnificent – I think combined they scored 90% of the kills. It was a real slugfest in the middle and my left. On the right my Knights of Dol Amroth led my Prince Imrahil scored many victories (except against the troll who killed 3 knights) but were able to outflank and get into the rear of the Mordor Host and score victories and capture many objectives.

A great and fun game – hopefully Pete and a number of Austin players will make the drive down to SA on 3 October to play in the Heroes Retreat Tournament.
