PayPal recently declined a book order through a hobby retailer. One book was on the Iraq/Iran war, and the other was an Osprey on South African armor.

Wonder which one triggered their censors?

Amex however had no problem paying for it though.

Probably both.
You have to consider the type of person who would actually want a job writing censorship algorithms. And when you do that, you realize you have a person who doesn't ever consider context, and who has no appreciation for history. All they see is "bad" words.
So anything having to do with war, Iraq, and South Africa, must by default be "bad."
I can see that it might be an amusing study to see what gets flagged by the censorbots by typing in requests for info on various historical wars which happen to have occurred in present-day politically sensitive hotspots around the world. Maybe we could pull a Kirk and even cause the censorbots' host computers to explode.

Yeah, I know. *Sigh.* If only…

Parzival, I like the way you think. Now how do I go about hiring Russian or North Korean hackers to write bots to do the work? Anyone got directions to the dark web?

"Well Johnnie, if you study hard and get good grades, anything is possible!"

I wonder if a class action lawsuit would be possible.

I had a book on the Iran/Iraq war cancelled by Paypal a couple of years ago. The automated questions were focused on the key word "Iran." I was unable to appeal it. Somehow they just knew that my used book sale would monetarily benefit the Islamic State of Iran and violate sanctions and they cancelled the sale.

No hope, OFM. These people have no class.

I couldn't order with PayPal from GMT Flags because the word brigade in the order flagged some banning thing. They wouldn't change it either.

Lots of proctologists start out as gynocologists but just miss by an inch…
