This may have been polled before, but a quick search suggests it's been a few years.

Let's keep this simple:

Yes.
No.

There really aren't any other options.

No, I don't like them.

Two dice towers, a dice corral, and a couple of dice dishes

Rich Bliss03 Sep 2021 7:17 a.m. PST

Yes

John the Greater03 Sep 2021 7:37 a.m. PST

No, we use dice cups. Having a tower is just having one more thing to go wrong.

Yes, no.

doc mcb03 Sep 2021 7:52 a.m. PST

Yes, no.

But my rules tend towards volleys, double handfulls, of d6s. I use a big box top with high sides to roll in, and any die that escapes is an automatic miss.

Beaky Nose03 Sep 2021 8:34 a.m. PST

No. I had to seaerch on the internet for what one was!

Florida Tory03 Sep 2021 8:46 a.m. PST

Yes, sometimes. My dice towers are disguised as buildings, so they only are used in a game where they are appropriate to the setting.

I also have dice trays, which I use more often.

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP03 Sep 2021 8:51 a.m. PST

Have and sometimes use. Away games especially I'm more likely to use a dice tray.

Personal logo miniMo Supporting Member of TMP03 Sep 2021 8:53 a.m. PST

Yes, sometimes. The big dragon-shaped ones I've got are a festive addition to Dragon Dice games, and functionally useful with the handfuls of dice thrown.

martin goddard Sponsoring Member of TMP03 Sep 2021 9:00 a.m. PST

No.
However, they are a great solution for players at our club who roll their dice to cause damage or indulge in some other cheat such as "slap down" et al.

yes but only for DBA. It strangely became like a religious thing.

Yes. I own four of them. They ensure my rolls are totally random, in spite of my rounded-corners dice. Take a look at these two videos showing dice traveling through a Tower in slow-motion, and with a transparent face: dice falling one at a time, and a handful all at once.

The Tower in the video was made of Blood Wood, with a Janka hardness of 2,900 lbs. One of mine is made of Padauk (1,725 lbs.), and the other three of Hickory (1,820 lbs.). The harder the wood, the more reactive (bouncy) the dice are when they hit the baffles.

I play bucket-O-dice games, and the 30+ dice can make a mess, on the table, knocking over mini's and terrain. I dislike that, very much. The Tower ensures completely random rolls (can be catastrophic, actually…), and the tray keeps the dice contained (usually). I love them, for these two, very true, reasons. No one will ever accuse me of conveniently rolling dice off the palm of my hand, to get just what I need… Cheers!

ChrisBrantley03 Sep 2021 9:52 a.m. PST

Yes (I have one) and No (I don't use it).

But it looks like a 50's B movie rocket ship and makes good table dressing for retro-space games.

I do use a dice cup, and like to hide the results until my opponent rolls. Interestingly enough, since going to the cup, my characteristic "bad luck" has improved, with results now typically following the normal distribution.

Zeelow03 Sep 2021 10:12 a.m. PST

Nope.

Tgerritsen Supporting Member of TMP03 Sep 2021 10:15 a.m. PST

Sometimes- depends on the game and the persons I am playing with. I have a few (we all have them I think) who can't keep their dice on the table for the life of them. For those people, I break out the dice tower or tray.

Yes but I rarely use it. The novelty wore off quickly.

Have one, use it occasionally

Made one, love it as dice use to find any empty spot to fly

Yes! I have an almost unhealthy affinity for them. I've taken to building cool ones and giving them away as gifts, even.

Yes

Personal logo PaulCollins Supporting Member of TMP03 Sep 2021 4:50 p.m. PST

Have, but don't use much. It is a castle tower so only hits the table when appropriate.

Personal logo Doctor X Supporting Member of TMP03 Sep 2021 7:55 p.m. PST

Dice tray, no dice tower. You can pick the tray up and off the terrain when done rolling. Dice towers can be moved as well but are generally much bulkier.

Glengarry503 Sep 2021 8:49 p.m. PST

I have 4 dice towers but I noticed they didn't get used a lot so I switched to dice trays.

My friend Rob Gravener uses one, he rolls nothing but "6" using it (at least that is how it seems). On one occasion I "accidently" knocked it on the floor, then "accidently" stepped on it – it was reminiscent of the "Leg Lamp" from Christmas Story. Needless to say – his consistent 6's have faded!!

No, I don't want the setup to look any weirdler than it already does to my non wargaming friends.

Gorgrat04 Sep 2021 8:04 p.m. PST

I never saw any point. It's really just an anti-cheating device. I have yet to meet the DnD player who had the dexterity and skills of a professional gambler.
