In this, the final post in a series of three looking at scratch-building a ship-rigged, flush-deck sloop from two Warlord Games 1:700th scale model brig-sloops, I showcase the other three of the six models built, namely a late war French, Spanish and Batavian Dutch option.

As well as looking at these models I have also included a look at the way I have planned my ‘small ships' part of my collection to facilitate a hundred scenarios that cover engagements from two to rarely more than six ships and provide a core collection of a range of models that are included in the Warlord Black Seas range or can be scratch built as illustrated here.

Very nice, with good distinctions between the ships.

I'm not sure how much good it will do me with my efforts in 1/1200 scale, but I've noticed your shrouds previously, and this time you referred to "cutting the acetate". What is your source for these shrouds/ratlines?

Hi Rick,
Thank you.

Ok so the models are supplied with the ratlines/shrouds, printed on an acetate sheet, from which they can be cut out and glued in place on the model.

Because I have built a taller mainmast for this scratch build and am using the acetate provided with the brig kit, there are only two sets of shrouds supplied, a brig being a two masted vessel, and because they are designed for the shorter masts you will need to create a longer version to cater for the new mainmast by acquiring an extra set of acetate shrouds from Warlord.

The shrouds for the brig mizzenmast are the larger of the two sets and provide the basis of my new extended shrouds by simply cutting the acetate beyond the top of the print to create the piece that slots under the fighting top, suitably disguised with black grey paint.

I hope that answers your question.
