Although I have attended Historicon for a number of years, this year will be the first time that I will be running a couple of games. I want to invite some of the Renaissance Discussion Board members that have been kind enough to leave encouraging comments on my posts, to either join in one of the games or just drop by for a chat.

The first of my games will be the 1651 Battle of Berestechko. I will be running this game at 9am on the Thursday at the very start of the convention. It will be for up to eight players.
This game is my lock down project that I started in March 2020 and completed in March 2021. The battle is part of the Khmelnytsky Cossack uprising against the Polish Commonwealth. The game is in 28mm and has about 600 figures. It includes a large amount of cavalry (Pancerni, Winged Hussars, Polish Cossacks and Tatars) as well wagon tabors.
Here is a photo of the game when I ran it recently at our local club.

The second of my games is the 1522 Battle of Bicocca from the Italian Wars. This is the larger of the games and I will be running it a 9am on Friday morning.
I just realized that next year is the 500th anniversary of this battle, and it may have been more sensible to run it next year. However, the game is ready now, so we will be marking the 499th anniversary.

The game is also in 28mm and will have about 1500 figures. It will have space for ten players.
Last weekend I got together with a few friends to play test part of the battle – the Swiss assault of the Spanish defenses at the sunken road. Here are a couple of pictures.

Both games will be run with modified Pike and Shotte rules and the aim will be to keep things fun and moving quickly.

I am looking forward to Historicon and hope to meet some of you there.

Looks great!

When I ran La Bicocca at Historicon about 10 years ago, the Swiss actually managed to win!

Thanks for all the uplifting comments. They are appreciated as it is a little daunting putting on my first games at a convention.

Gonsalvo, it is interesting that the Swiss won in your game of Bicocca. How to keep a balanced game in which the Swiss at least have a chance was one of the things that I wrestled with during the play-tests. I actually read your blog and the blog of Olicanalad shamelessly looking for ideas. I think that I have a good balance as a result of the play tests.

In the actual battle there was fierce fighting between the Landsknechts and the Swiss at the sunken road, so it is not impossible to envisage them overcoming the defenses. Also there are interesting possibilities of the French capturing the bridge on the Spanish right flank or the Venetians getting through the marsh on the Spanish left flank. So there should be plenty of opportunities to keep things interesting.

I just saw that the PEL (list of all the games at Historicon) has just been released. There looks to be a huge number of games being put on, so I am very optimistic about Historicon being a success. Unfortunately there don't seem to be too many Renaissance games other than mine and the impressive Aztec games that I have seen on this forum.
