Thanks for the heads up. I stocked up on the washes I use. Guess I'll need to figure out something else when those run out.

Never heard of them and they seem to be from a town very close to me. I guess I will have to watch for their warehouse sale, maybe?

I thought it was an American company? Is the owner blaming Brexit for the previous US administrations' export-prohibitive postage rates?

Shame. I liked them (although ever since those aforementioned postage rates went up, I haven't bought anything from him. Or any company in the US for that matter).

What I read is the warehouse sale is going on now.

I saw the Brexit comment as well, maybe they did a lot of business overseas? I saw their products used a lot in fantasy and more display pieces so that may be a factor with Brexit as well.

Always a bummer when somebody's dream comes to an end. I have some of their nice paints/washes. Hopefully, the owner & employees find another job as fulfilling. Oversea postage is a killer now, and has prevented me from buying just about anything from the USA.

Never heard of them, sadly, until now.

Brexit has made no difference to trade between the UK and USA. It only affects UK/EU trade.

I can see that covid and international postage will have caused problems though…

Brexit has made no difference to trade between the UK and USA. It only affects UK/EU trade.

Not entirely true.
VAT is now charged on all incoming parcels, i.e., there is no waiving for items valued below £20.00 GBP GBP As mentioned, VAT also applies to postage. For items valued between £0.01 GBP GBP and £135.00 GBP GBP the collection and remit of VAT is the duty of the sender. One may register with HMRC but if outside the UK, one must have a UK based representative to handle compliance, typically an accounting firm*. For items over £135.00 GBP GBP value, it is the responsibility of the recipient to remit VAT.

So to be clear, I can register online with HMRC but I can't pay them, despite the fact that I routinely send money electronically to people all over the world and pay several tax authorities in the US exclusively online. Rather, I have to hire someone to be no more than a geographical pass-through, and even more absurdly it's for remitting a maximum of £27.00 GBP GBP per parcel.. from this thread:

Whereas the EU's new VAT regs have been very conducive to US sellers.

Between the huge jump in postage prices (due to the US leaving the UPU) and the UK's post-Brexit VAT changes, small hobby businesses have, by and large, suspended sales to the UK indefinitely. I include myself in that group, unfortunately.

VAT on postage is just as dumb as a box of rocks.

The new EU VAT regs are the same as the new UK regulations. It is one of the areas where the UK government is continuing to 'harmonise' with the EU.

The difference is that the EU has set up this IOSS electronic portal. But non-EU sellers still need a local 'partner' to handle the VAT.

Mind, I'm not surprised that HMRC have made the process a bigger pain than it needs to be!

Emckinney – VAT is a tax on goods and services. Postage is a service…
