In the later part of WW2 the German Fallschirmjaegers received an extra light machine gun in each section (Gruppe). Did these come with a crew making a section 12 strong, or were two of the existing Jaegers given the gun, keeping the strength at 10? I would welcome any information. |

The one (and only) KStN I've seen for a German Para Company is the one dated 01 May 1944, and shows two NCOs, four riflemen and four LMG numbers per Rifle Squad, so still an authorised strength of ten men. Gary |

Didn't change. They dropped on Crete with two MG34's per section. |

Starfury Rider I think the correct breakdown is as follows: 2 x NCO 4 x LMG 4 dudes carrying ammmo |

Did not a glider borne section also have the DFS-230's MG-15. And if so, did this increase the LMGs per section? |

Yes you are correct. The pilot was supposed to man the gun and give fire support as necessary. However, as far as I am aware, it was not part of the establishment of the section. Rather it was part of the glider's equipment. Therefore if no glider operation, then this gun was not available. So, after Crete, apart from 'special' operations such as Gran Sasso and Vercours, most of the Fallschirmjagers of 1943-45 tended not to see it. |

If a squad was 10 men with 2 x LMG, what would be the smallest manoeuver elements? 2 teams(5 men), each including an LMG? 2 LMG teams and 2 infantry teams? |

Manoeuvre would be by squad. Forget fire teams and splitting squads. |
