Most of my experience with AWI is at skirmish level or slightly above with Brother Against Brother and Light Bobs. Interested in regiment/battalion level rules where a QRS will be the front/back of a sheet of paper. I have played Volley and Bayonet a couple of times at cons. What say ye? |

We are using Regimental Fireand Fury variant. |

Loads of choices, it depends what you like. Most of these rule sets fit your bill: British Grenadier Black Powder Historical Battlelines Rank & File |

Old school rules: "Field Regulations". Probably wouldn't even need a QRS. |

+ 5 Rank and File – easy system, highly flexible Guns of Liberty by Eric Burgess – gives a good feel I will be using Rank and File. |

I like Carnage and Glory. All on the computer so no QRS necessary. Plays quicker than you'd think. |

We use a free set of rules called "Sons of Liberty". We have modified it a little over the years. They are an easy and fun set of rules. Not complicated and yet gives you a feel for the period. PDF link |

British Grenadier link Really nice feel for the period, and adjustable figure ratios for bigger or smaller battles. |

Settle for what works for you. I'm tired of chasing the"perfect" set of AWI rules. "The perfect is the enemy of the possible." —-Genghis Khan We use Age of Reason, because we are used to it and like it. |

BTW, British Grenadier has a fantastic set of scenario books, suitable for whatever set of rules you settle for. |

I was looking for some rules for the AWI just a few days ago myself and came across "Liberty or death!" on jayswargamingmadness blog. They are a free download and they look like they cover all the bases and have some interesting mechanics. I just need to get a bunch more stuff painted and based before I can give them a good run on the table. Either way, you got nothing to lose on a free download and the blog itself is top notch. Good luck! |

Fire and Fury Variant Also waiting to see the next revision of Guns and Liberty – have heard some good things about it +1 to British Grenadier scenario books |

"Disperse! Ye Damned Rebels" by Larry Brom is a set where the maneuver units are the infantry battalion and the artillery "battery." You can get them from sergeants3.com . Jim |

Field of Battle 3 works well for the American Rev War. Thanks John |

I like Guns of Liberty. Another recommendation for the British Grenadier scenario books. |

Anyone tried adapting Honours of War? |
John the OFM | 27 Aug 2021 1:52 p.m. PST |
I have done actions like Cowpens and Bennington very comfortably with The Sword and the Flame. No. Seriously. For real. |

Loose Files & American Scramble, but I'm also intrigued by Fields of Glory AWI. |

The BG scenario books are useful and serve as a basis for some of my games. However the Hubbardton scenario has very little to do with the actual battle. |

My Fife and Drum Rules for the AWI are printed on ONE SIDE of a sheet of paper. Even better, they are free to download from the Fife and Drum Miniatures web store site. link I use a 1:10 or 1:20 ratio for my units. |

Takeda 1x – We have started using the Liberty of Death (LoD) rules, having used the Patriots and Loyalists rules for a number of years. Having played four or five LoD games we have changed around the main parts of the quick reference sheet to reflect our thoughts on after playing the rules as written. This includes evade rules, modifiers for units without bayonets in melee and a few other things. Happy to send you, or anyone else who may be interested, a copy of our quick reference sheet along with a scenario to try out. Old Contemptible, Jim and Der Alte Fritz – Thanks for posting links to other rules sets and will give them a go too. Also agree with others about getting hold of the British Grenadier scenario books. Thanks for the offer ezza123 on your "liberty or death!" QRS. I would be interested in what you changed after your play 4-5 games. |
