I am reading the Monogahela OB in the Black Powder scenario book A Dark and Bloody Ground. I want to represent Capt. Stewart's Virginia Troop of Horse Rangers and the Virginia Provisional Rangers. Any suggestions as to how they were uniformed, if at all?

This is just my opinion, but it seems that every "uniform" plate I've ever seen for Rangers, FIW or AWI, shows troops after the war in question. grin
I started out with the pretty Roger's and Butler's uniforms and caps.
Now I would prefer rough backwoods types, like the Kings Mountain Over Mountain Men. Vary heads.
Old Glory have "Mounted Kentucky Rifles" in the Mad Anthony Wayne range. If you have KMM heads, swap out a few.
Perry have mounted militia, preferably with hunting shirt.
Even if you go with Old Glory or other FIW Ranger figures, don't worry about painting in "uniform" colors. Green, blue, grey, brown, etc.

There is this:

The Virginians in the Monogahela were deployed as individual companies. Personally, I would throw some uniforms (or parts of uniforms) along with assorted civilian attire.

79thPA, thanks, great reference link!

I would go with blue coats faced red. Small clothes of linen, perhaps leather breeches if they were lucky.

Certainly room for some variety. The infantry proved to be good units in the fight. The horse seem to disappear.

I'm with 79th. My figures are mostly informal with some in parts of uniform. Same with cavalry, similar to OFM.

As for rangers, I still like them in the pretty green. OFM may not like my approach per historical accuracy, but on my table I am the quartermaster.

Hey. My mantra is "As the Colonel shall decide."
You're the painter. You're the Colonel.

Rangers was a later designation for some companies of the VA Regt. Don't recall them calling the VA troops with Braddock rangers, but maybe. Clearly they weren't.

Yikes. Take that last website with a grain of salt.

Cavalry in the Wilderness covers the uniform of Stewart's Light Horse. link
