Hi all Just finished this 1:35 scale Panzer 1 from Hobby Boss. I chose to finish the model in Spanish Civil War colours. More pics on my blog at vellamike61.blogspot.com Hope you enjoy! Mike

Be sure to follow his link. The photos are amazing. The markings genuinely look painted on. The rust effect, the highlighting on the inner surfaces of the hatch covers and the wear on the seat in the interior view…..a marvel. |

Maybe its too early , but tank crews would sand off the interior paint from the crew compartments. Bullets rattling off armour could send paint chips spalling off into the crew. |

What a great response….certainly set me thinking….and there is a logic to that…..and yet……… We have always been told to paint tank interiors in white……(Whiteish) OK, opened hatches are meant to be in Olive Drab (I will accept Panzer Grey, for the bad guys) on the inside, to not show up when open. . |

Many thanks to all. Interesting notion Cmdr Kevin. Makes sense but i have to admit I had never heard of it (I'm not a huge WW2 buff, far from it). @Deadhead. The interior colour was a dilemma in fact but I settled for Elfenbein after going through quite a bit of conflicting sources. Still not sure if it was the actual colour used during the SCW as early production data is quite scant. |

Great modelling, lovely subtlety to the work, kudos to the maker! I agree with above the interior of hatches were painted to match the exterior hull (base colour) so they wouldn't stand out when open. Here's a link to a great blog post that has period pictures of SCW Panzers with some clearly showing this practise; link I have never heard of sanding off interior paint interesting thought but I never seen anything in writing about it. I'd love to know what the unit Maintenance Officers would have thought of it! 🙂 Cheers! |
