That is sad. Aside from the book being great, he was a super journalist. Ken Burns' interviews with him during the Vietnam War doc were excellent and revealing.

Oh, how sad. He was an incredible journalist, a very different animal from today's crop.

He was the only civilian the Army ever awarded the Bronze Star (with V) for his actions. Great, great book

Great book, well written and moving. Like the movie, too. Peppers was an inspired casting. RIP Joe.

I did not like the film much.

I expect the book is better. There is a copy in the house I am living in and may dip into it to see if it is.

Sad Joe Galloway has died.

Very sad to hear this news. Indeed a great book, hope Joe and Hal have a grand reunion.
Rest in peace.

Yes, he was great, I had read his book, saw the movie and saw him interviewed on the History Channel, Ken Burns, etc. He was one of a kind, IMO.

RIP Joe … you are back with your comrades from Vietnam …

Our battalion commander made the book required reading for officers and NCOs. He wanted to show the contrast between how the two battalions (and their leaders) handled their respective situations.

Sad news.

As for the book vs movie never a surprise with Hollywood that the movie is for the least common denominator. How many times have we all said the same about other movies.

So with movies I just understand that they are entertainment not history, with a few rare exceptions.
