Smaug is dead— now everybody wants a piece of what's left. (The treasure, not the dragon!)

I'm hosting this classic GW grand tactical game, based on their official Warmaster variant. This is a big fight involving a suitable mass of 10mm forces, and it's based on Tolkien's classic novel, The Hobbit.* (for those of you who have been living in a dark lake under the Misty Mountains for the last seven decades or so).

If you're coming look for me— I should be in the main hall, but I don't know what table I'll be on yet, and I'm not yet on the current PEL (signed up after 7/19, the last PEL update on the website).

And if you've got young gamers, they're welcome at my table, with appropriate supervision.

Hope to see y'all there!

*The novel, not the horrendous live action film. There may be some minor additional units for the sake of tactical variety, but they fit in the category of "they could be there in small numbers" rather than "I'm gonna create absurd new things Tolkien never mentioned, and rip off Dune while I'm at it, too."**

**Not that that couldn't be a fun battle— it just wouldn't be this battle.

Alas, my plans for a backdrop of The Lonely Mountain are being clobbered by local weather— it's hot, stormy and humid— too much so to spray the primer on my home-carved styrofoam mountain! (And yes, I have styrofoam-safe paint.) And the storms look to continue through Friday. So, barring a dramatic change in weather, there will be no mountain. Bummer. But that was just for show anyway; it's not an element in the game. The lower spurs are good to go, and the figs are ready. (Well, I'm adding little identifying marks for the various units— identical units are too easily mixed up when the combat turns into a big hairy fur ball. But that's just little dabs of paint on the base edges.)

Parzival:
Looking forward to it.

Also, I get it about the weather. I am building hasty works for North Anna River… and the stupid things are taking FOREVER to dry. We just had another thunder storm in Goodlettsville… yuk….

Found a clever and simple solution with an homage to the good professor himself. If you know Tolkien, you'll know what I mean when you see it!*

Packing up now to head over (the con location is only 30 minutes from my house).

*For those not in attendance (you poor unfortunate souls) pics should appear after today.
