Hmmm, are we asking when did it happen?
Or where are the models?

"French cavalry overcoat"- capote, manteau existed for decades.
Men can hide under cover from rain and snow, a horse and rider, particularly those on scouting or sentry duty, not so much.

Some model makers have done these for later in period, but few mess with what sells in Napoleonics- pretty uniforms. The Perry Russians aside…

I've had a go at creating a few custom figures for myself,

Yes I couldn't remember if it was the Gilder range or Connoisseur- I still have the Austrians in covert capes, only troopers tho not special figs.

joe I would think the 'coat' can never be 'wrong'.
What will be more 'wrong' would be the shako, its shape, its decorations and eagle plate. Most early regimwnts still had the diamond plate, but you can paint over that or file it down.

Overalls (over-trousers really) were worn all the time (Empire) on campaign so thats not unusual either.

Yep make your own. Milliput works well, just fidly.
[I'd caution using some of the more modern illustrations; they tend to project images of military men that just wasn't common- eg Conrad and Courcelles.]
