Unless you support the other side of course.

Must admit if I had been daft enough to spend Tet in Hue in 1968, instead of in North London at my parents' house, I would not have wanted to have seen these hanging from nearby balconies.

Always got me that kids flew such banners when protesting the war and calling for peace. Even in London we saw so many. I was always equivocal about the wisdom of US involvement in Vietnam, but not the morality of it. I was so glad our Govt kept us out for obvious personal reasons, but always had that feeling that there needed to be a "line in the sand", that US kids would hold of course.

But what disgusted me was so called opponents to the war flying flags of an enemy that grossly exceeded any atrocities blamed on the US. I like to think they had no idea. I had hair almost down to my waist by 1971 but would never tolerate an NLF banner. These days I almost have some hair on my forehead.

When the NVA entered Saigon the NLF victory banners were not needed since the NLF was conveniently sacrificed during Tet.

Good point about 1975, but there are some images of NLF flags flying from tanks in Saigon. The blue bit soon disappeared of course and indeed it was all NVA by then it seems.

Yes, they didn't want anymore Southern Nationalists hanging around than there had to be. They only wanted "good" Communists left in Vietnam. The less they had to "reeducate"[or execute?] the better.

indeed chaps an exercise in "Window dressing" literally..

smaller confetti sized flags issued as well for cars and

any other modes of transport….striking looking flags

though………part of the rich tapestry of a "benign"

conquest
