"I've seen this topic crop up a few times in recent weeks. On various message boards, there has been moaning on both sides of the argument regarding the painting side of the hobby, and I thought I'd chip in my two cents. I've mentioned it briefly before but this time I want to write a little more on the subject, and why, to me, painting your miniatures is a must. First of all, do remember that you can tell me to get on my bike. You don't have to take one bit of notice of what I'm going to say, but I'm still going to say it. Anyone who disagrees is welcome to leave a comment below (constructive preferred) or ignore the whole damn article…" From this Blog link Also…

Interesting – I actually like painting maybe a little more than gaming! |

Very well said. I completely agree with the author's point of view, although beginning players can push someone else's figure until theirs are ready. |

I don't like playing with unpainted figures – save for plastic army men versus projectile-shooting toy guns in the style of Little Wars – but I am neither good at painting, nor do I enjoy it. So I earn some extra money by doing things I am reasonably good at, and use it to pay someone else, more skilful than I am, to paint the toy soldiers for me. As I use 10mm figures, that doesn't involve shading, highlights, washes &c. which seem now to be de rigeur with larger figures. For me, painting is necessary so one can tell what the figures represent on the tabletop and the game is pleasing to the eye, but it is not an end in itself. I appreciate others feel differently and actually enjoy painting, besides being very skilful at it. Good luck to them. |
