Ok, I will ask the question. Though it is definitely non-scientific and anachronistic . . . I am sure we all have a favorite. Mine are: *1,000,000 BC (love Raquel) *When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth *Original King Kong |
Patrick R | 09 Oct 2005 7:06 a.m. PST |
Beast of Gwangi is one of my favorites |
Andrew May1 | 09 Oct 2005 7:12 a.m. PST |
There were dinosaurs in 1000000 BC? Thats news to me! |
Cacique Caribe | 09 Oct 2005 7:16 a.m. PST |
Ok. I guess I should have said "Prehistoric Beasts vs Humans". Forgot my ALL TIME FAVORITE: "Caveman" (with Ringo) CC |
Doms Decals | 09 Oct 2005 7:17 a.m. PST |
1,000,000 BC for me

Hi Guys, I liked all of the choices so far
They were all campy good! Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak. |

Saginaw | 09 Oct 2005 8:40 a.m. PST |
I also count all the choices listed as my favorites, and I'll add some more to the cool mix. I loved 'The Land That Time Forgot', 'The People That Time Forgot', and 'At The Earth's Core'. Patrick R beat me to 'Gwangi', though, which I can say is my most favorite "cowboys and dinosaurs" movie! |
Inari7 | 09 Oct 2005 8:42 a.m. PST |
Not a movie but a T.V. Show "Land of the Lost" |
jpattern | 09 Oct 2005 9:18 a.m. PST |
Much though I like One Million Years BC with Raquel, my favorite is still Valley of Gwangi, hands downfollowed by the first Jurassic Park. |
Doctor Strangelove | 09 Oct 2005 9:27 a.m. PST |
Anything with Doug McClure, ther're so bad, that what makes them great. Good for "Bad Movie Night" with your buddies, some popcorn & beer. Did you know that "1 Million Years BC" with Raquel Welch was a "Hammer Film". Anything from that English production company is a great rainy, snowy day, kind of movie with a mug of hot coco. |
Saginaw | 09 Oct 2005 9:28 a.m. PST |
Inari7, thanks for that one! How many times did we all try to make those really cool animated dinosaurs on 'Land of the Lost' out of simple Play-Doh, only to be frustrated when they dried out and fell apart? Good one! |
Plynkes | 09 Oct 2005 9:39 a.m. PST |
"The Land that Time Forgot". Has a U-Boat as well as unconvincing rubber monsters, so it wins the laurel for my money. |
Osiris | 09 Oct 2005 9:58 a.m. PST |
Anopther vote for the Land That Time Forgot (and all of Doug McClure's other 3 adventure moves vs. giant rubber dinosaurs
let's not forget Warlords of Atlantis.) |
Ditto Tango 2 1 | 09 Oct 2005 10:09 a.m. PST |
I'm sure I'll get stifled for this, but I thought the Jurassic Park series were excellent as far as portrayals of dinosaurs go. I enjoyed them mainly for that, despite any silliness in plot
|
Parzival | 09 Oct 2005 11:46 a.m. PST |
Jurassic Park, if only for the ripple in the cup shot. Just a great flick. |
DAWGIE | 09 Oct 2005 11:46 a.m. PST |
ALL OF THE ABOVE! did not care for JURRAISSIC PARK: THE REST OF THE STORY. |
chipjaxgarrison | 09 Oct 2005 12:43 p.m. PST |
They are rereleasing the Original King Kong in a double DVD set which includes footage cut from later showings, including Kong undressing Fay Wray and chomping down on the natives. |
Jakar Nilson | 09 Oct 2005 1:18 p.m. PST |
Jurassic Park (I was 10, and it was great!) King Kong The Lost World (John Ryths Davies version, cause I've never seen the others) |
Cacique Caribe | 09 Oct 2005 3:00 p.m. PST |
I know this sounds cheesy, but there was a movie once where a comet or meteor strikes the earth and the debris takes humans to a prehistoric world. Does it sound familiar? Cannot think of the name for the life of me. CC |
The Game Crafter | 09 Oct 2005 5:29 p.m. PST |
Dinosaurus, New World Pictures 1960. Last scene features a battle between T-rex and a steam shovel realy great!! Cacique Caribe I saw that movie too. Can't remember the title though. |
Mrs Pumblechook | 09 Oct 2005 5:31 p.m. PST |
Caveman with Ringo and its just been released in Australia on DVD. Woohoo! |
Alxbates | 09 Oct 2005 9:59 p.m. PST |
1 – Original King Kong 2 – Jurassic Park 3 – Valley of the Gwangi Although I have a great deal of affection for all the Godzilla movies, and for that matter the old "put a rubber fin on an iguana" Journey to the Center of the Earth films. I also suspect that the new King Kong film coming soon might push its way into the top three. |
KeithJohnson | 10 Oct 2005 5:37 p.m. PST |
1. Valley of Gwangi – that Gila Golan was hot! Course I was just a teenager then, too. Cowboys roping dinosaurs and Gwangi taking a big bite out the elephant. hahaha 2. Jurassic Park – oh, yeah! That's when dinos conquered the big screen. |
stroblight | 11 Oct 2005 10:41 a.m. PST |
What about the World's First In-Flight Movie? The Lost World(1925)The first stop action dinos. What was the lost world remake with the guy wearing the parachute getting killed by a triceratops. |
Cacique Caribe | 12 Oct 2005 9:11 a.m. PST |
Wasn't there a strange movie in the 60s(?) about a (post-apocalyptic?) teenage caveman? If I am not mistaken, the main actor also did a spy series. I cannot think of it, for the life of me. CC |
Cacique Caribe | 12 Oct 2005 10:02 a.m. PST |
Found it! Oddly enough, it was called "Teenage Caveman": link CC |
The Shadow | 12 Oct 2005 10:40 a.m. PST |
"Found it! Oddly enough, it was called "Teenage Caveman"" Yup. With Robert Vaughn of "The Man From U.N.C.L.E" and "The Magnificent 7". It was a terrible movie. Cheap beyond all belief and boring too. Not even "campy" emough to be funny. It just plain stunk. |
Cacique Caribe | 12 Oct 2005 10:54 a.m. PST |
Oddly enough, I saw it dubbed into Spanish. The translators must have seen how bad it was and made an attempt at fixing the dialogue and narration. It is one of those weird movies that stay with you, though not because it is by any means a favorite. CC |
Cacique Caribe | 29 May 2006 9:45 p.m. PST |
I just love this movie poster: picture Now, if only I could get the "na-na-na-nana" song they actually hum in the movie (it is not in the soundtrack). CC |
Cacique Caribe | 29 May 2006 10:55 p.m. PST |
Let's try that again: picture picture I love that line: "Back when you had to beat it before you could eat it . . . " CC |

"I know this sounds cheesy, but there was a movie once where a comet or meteor strikes the earth and the debris takes humans to a prehistoric world. Does it sound familiar? Cannot think of the name for the life of me." Anyone out there know which movie that was? CC |
Mulligan | 17 Dec 2008 10:27 a.m. PST |
I saw that movie when I was a kid. I believe it was called "Valley of the Dragons." It was loosely (ludicrously) based on the Jules Verne novel Off on a Comet. Mulligan |
Cacique Caribe | 17 Dec 2008 10:37 a.m. PST |
Mulligan, I think that's it!!! link link Thanks so much. CC |
Cacique Caribe | 17 Dec 2008 12:19 p.m. PST |
Too bad it's not available on DVD (it seems). CC |
Double W | 17 Dec 2008 3:34 p.m. PST |
For me, it's the original King King. The sets, the jungle scenes, the dinosaurs
It was the best pulp story ever put on the silver screen. The most recent King Kong remake isn't bad, but it's bloated and the whole thing about being sympathetic to Kong, even as he's killing innocent bystanders, was silly. That and the whole scene with the T. rexes swinging through vines. Also have to give a shout out to the original Land of the Lost, at least the first two seasons. You know they're making a big-budget movie based on the show? It's supposed to be a comedy, meaning it will be awful, and they made the daughter character the "love interest" of the father character. Ewwwww

Warrenss2 | 17 Dec 2008 4:00 p.m. PST |
I seem to remember a movie that didn't have dinos in it but paleolithic beasties in it. I think it was on the Disney tv show. Modern day family (if you call the mid to late 60's modern) stranded on an island with the creatures. I remember some of them being treed by those huge ostrich type birds and having to use their belts as weapons to lash down at them to drive them off. Ring a bell with anyone? |
Warrenss2 | 17 Dec 2008 4:20 p.m. PST |
Oh yea
Warin alunda Caveman movie! Warin alunda Raquel too! Warin zug-zug Raquel!! |

I guess this one is still among my favorites: link CC |
Warrenss2 | 17 Dec 2008 5:42 p.m. PST |
Every time I watch that scene I think it's the same song the Ewok do in their Star Wars movie. |
Cacique Caribe | 17 Dec 2008 5:52 p.m. PST |
OMG. Which came first, the Caveman or the Ewok? Anyway, I think the lyrics are a bit different: link link CC |
Warrenss2 | 17 Dec 2008 5:56 p.m. PST |
I'm a linguist with the Caveman speak, but I can't understand a stitch of Ewok. "OMG. Which came first, the Caveman or the Ewok?" The Caveman predated the Ewoks. |

Mr Brightside | 25 Aug 2009 2:59 p.m. PST |
Jurassic Park II (the Lost World)and Peter Jackson's King Kong. Double W- Peter Jackson and a lot of others I am sure already empathized with Kong in the old movies so they remade it to reflect that. Besides the plot is that he is the one being harrassed and taken out of his home. Not to say that your point isn't a good one. Peter Jackson's Kong is more empathetic than the original. I couldn't really empathize with someone that everyone is screaming at and that shoves people into its mouth either. |
Bob Murch | 25 Aug 2009 9:06 p.m. PST |
Perhaps not my favorite but it always grabbed my attention when I was a kid-'Journey to the Centre of the Earth'. I believe an iguana won the Best Supporting Oscar that year for his portrayal of a dinosaur in a lava flow. Anyone see the old Hammer 'The Abominable Snowman'? Not dinos but a pretty cool story. I wish I could find it on DVD-waiting for a re-issue. Bob pulpfigures.com |

The original King Kong, even though the dinosaurs were bit players. |

QUESTION: Can you ID this Harryhausen dino scene? Watch 20 seconds into this clip: YouTube link So what movie is that scene taken from? Thanks. Dan |
