Five years ago, Mel the Terrain Tutor posted a great video on the use of Expanded-PVC – a material that solves a ton of existing problems with basing scatter terrain pertaining to weight, sturdiness, durability, etc. Now that's you've had half a decade to work with it – what should we know now with all the experience that you've accumulated since then? Does it live up to its promise? Anything better come along? Has heavy use been a problem not obvious when you first start with it? I have a stack of it here ready to go but am curious how everyone is doing with it. Here's the original video: YouTube link Readily available at Amazon and I assume elsewhere: link |

I finally ordered some last year, but still have yet to use it. I seems great. Study. Stable. Strong. |

I have a similar thread going at TMP about Sintra. I'm thinking about etching (debossing) a stone texture into the stuff and wanted to know how well it would work. I also saw the video by the TerrainTutor. I'm hoping Sintra will take the deboss as well as the PVC he used for the demo. Cheers!

I carved up a bunch of tree bases today with it – it is tough to work with and quite a mess as I whittled down the edges for slopes. I had a brand new utility knife too and it was a fight. BUT! VERY sturdy and very flat – I have baseless trees I need to pin down so these are as ideal as it gets. I'll have a blog entry on it soon enough. |

Hi Flashman14, I will be interested in seeing your blog about this subject especially. I harbor high hopes that Sintra will be the material I've been looking for, both for building houses and for basing miniatures and scenery. Cheers!
