I vote for the American 2 1/2 ton truck in all its variants and manufacturers. This is probably the truck that won the war.

There are certainly others to consider, however.

Love the look of the Opel Blitz and the CMP truck but the Deuce and a half gets my vote as a war winner

DUKW I've always had a liking for since one drove past me on the beach and casually set off to sea.

This is where British terminological differences come into play. Either the 15-cwt (3/4-ton) truck, or the ubiquitous 3-tonner, which is technically a lorry, not a truck. I probably give a nod to the 15-cwt because of its long association with the Infantry and Motor Battalions.

This is where British terminological differences come into play … I probably give a nod to the 15-cwt because of its long association with the Infantry and Motor Battalions.

Speaking of the British terminology, wasn't the M5 Halftrack simply considered as a truck, especially when it came to Motor Battalion equipment.

That should qualify a bit higher in average wargamer interests than the regular 15 cwt.

As for favourite lorries, they should deserve a separate thread of their own.

The Morris C-8, or Quad, looks like a mash-up between a VW Beetle and the Batmobile Tumbler.

Was there ever a truck so effectively adapted as a Deuce and a Half?

My 2e DB has one mounting a 40mm Bofors. I then did its escort mounting two 50 water cooled MGs. This week we have seen a Doughnut (we spell it differently inevitably) caravan. You can see an engineer version, or a command conversion (both with 2e DB). The DUKW? Hang on, where did that come from? You can get hard tops and the canvas top, either with or without a 50 calibre. Plus a great model from Heller still available in 1/72 or 1/35.

I would agree the Dodge Weapons carrier as a second, if only because it took me so long to finally get one in 1/72. Does "an arm and leg" translate across the Pond? It weren't cheap!

Really like the 1 and 1/2 ton six wheel Dodge truck. I've got a fleet of them by "Solido" that scale out almost perfect as 1/56.

The 1.5 tonner is much harder to find in any scale. I tried to make one from a Katyusha model and, indeed, did still use a few parts from what was a crude original piece. Eventually a sawn off Heller, with some Academy spare bits, with the engine altered, gave a reasonable result. Still needed camo netting over the truck body to hide the errors!

The Deuce and a half might have been the biggest help in the war.
It even got a hull to make it a water craft.

Great call, Cerdic … but I've got to go with those Gaz AA trucks driving the ice road at Leningrad!
