I realized that 98% of the time, I view my miniatures at arm's length. I decided painting them for the 98 percentile of viewing, is all that is necessary. Now I block paint, followed by The Dip/Magic Wash Technique, texture the base, and put them into play on the table!
I recently discovered that a painting block I was experiencing was really an illusion in my own head. I blasted through it, and I finished a half-done project of many years.
Then the block came back -- still an illusion, but still holding me back. I understand your situation all too well.
Summer is here. Now I am busy with non-gaming projects -- too many of those, as well! Need more hours in the day…
Are you using magnets on both the mini's bases, and the bottoms of the storage bins? With a magnet on the bottom of every mini, you will run afoul of their polarity, sooner or later: like polarities will repel each other. Best practice is to use metal washers, only, on the figure bases, and magnetic sheets on movement and storage trays, only. The steel washers do not have polarity, so they do not repel against anything.
Good luck with your project. Cheers!
