Just when I was ready to give up on 30k…for like the 8th time….they go and do this.

Not only are these good for 30k but also for the Badab War, as it was chalk full of MK6 armor.

You should have said something! I have a bunch of beakies in various stages of assembly and paint.

Waco Joe12 Jun 2021 8:57 p.m. PST

Beakies rule!

Augustus12 Jun 2021 9:32 p.m. PST

And we see that now ALL of your non-primarus stuff is garbage. These new beakies are primaris-scale…before there were primaris. Nice one GW, they have softened the market enough to make this move viable.

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP12 Jun 2021 10:40 p.m. PST

Augustus, I'm hoping that's a mistake, seeing as it's listed as 30k kit.

Puster Sponsoring Member of TMP13 Jun 2021 1:55 a.m. PST

Was hoping for 30 new sets…

I always felt the beaky marines were the best! Great news that they are back!

Frederick Supporting Member of TMP13 Jun 2021 5:56 a.m. PST

Agreed! I have been scrounging beckie heads from other sets so this will make expanding my current fairly small chapter a lot easier!

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP13 Jun 2021 4:25 p.m. PST

Totally agree Herky. I've been sending emails to Forgeworld for years begging them for MK6 plastic sets.

Not only are they my favorite armor but they are useful for the Horus Heresy, 40k and everything between (ie the Badab War).

I asked FW for plastic Land Raiders and Spartans too but I never actually expected to see them.

I've been P.O.d for years at FW for not following up on their 2015 & 2016 Horus Heresy sets but I'm willing to let bygones be bygones if we get a new boxed game this year with a new set of rules!

joedog13 Jun 2021 4:29 p.m. PST

If it is anything like the previous HH boxed games, I'll be sheelling out for at least two.

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP13 Jun 2021 4:37 p.m. PST

Same here Joedog. I'd even pay $200 USD for a set with MK6 Marines, a Spartan and terrain or a new rule book.

Here's some more info on a possible release.

At least two… but looking at the contents, I bet they cost $300 USD each.

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP05 Jul 2021 7:42 p.m. PST

Some rumors on the new boxed set. If it follows the past 2 HH boxed sets I'd bet on it coming in December.

That beaky head looks awfully small to me. Something is afoot.

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP14 Jul 2021 2:40 p.m. PST

Pre-tell, what would the point of small Beakie heads be on Beakie Marines?

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP14 Jul 2021 5:35 p.m. PST

Here's some more chatter on GW's intent to take over 30k:

I'm hoping that a November release of a new boxed set will lead to a December release of a new set of rules.

Their original release of Red Books + Black books needed to play was essentially a disaster (even though I collected most of the Black Books so they got me there.

There's much speculation about the rules. I hope they just bring it into line with 40k 9th Ed.

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP15 Jul 2021 2:46 p.m. PST

Big rumors from Kirioth. I might actually be putting all my unfinished projects on hold, come November:

"Pre-tell, what would the point of small Beakie heads be on Beakie Marines?"

Scale change springs to mind.

It may just be the angle?

Der Krieg Geist18 Jul 2021 4:30 a.m. PST

Changing aesthetics are a fascinating thing to observe. I recall clearly, that when the first all plastic SM with mixed armor type components were released, the Mk6 Beaky components were the easiest for me to trade for. No one else seemed to like them and or did not want or care for properly matched suits for their SMs. Most seemed to prefer the mismatched marines being portrayed in the art work.
I managed to trade/swap for enough pieces to create forty plus, Mk6 marines. I have always liked them best,( I have well over a hundred of the RT01 Beakies built and detailed)…followed closely by Mk8 Errant armor . GW produced very few MK8 models of which, only two I own and are aware of. I was able to produce at least forty MK8 suits from those sets also.
As for a Spartan….. it just so happens that I am nearly finished kit-bashing/ converting/scratch building one, at this moment. :D
I would love to see the Beaky revival work of others also. Happy building and gaming to all. :)

Der Krieg Geist18 Jul 2021 5:21 a.m. PST

I wanted to share WIP photos with everyone but my computer saves all photos as JPEGs and I can't figure out how to obtain a URL for them so I can post here. Sorry.

joedog18 Jul 2021 8:10 p.m. PST

@DKG

When I want to share photos here, I post them to my blog, and then post a link to that.

As an example, here are some RTB-01 SMs…

For me, no other armor says "40k" like Beakies. All due to that original Rogue Trader book cover.

On a practical side I've long wanted to do 30k Alpha Legion & Raven Guard armies so my fingers are crossed for good news.

Der Krieg Geist19 Jul 2021 10:30 p.m. PST

joedog,
That sir, is some serious Beak-dom you've got going on there. :D
I will try and figure a way to post my Imperial horde of Beakie-ness so all my revel in their wombley goodness!
Bod Naismith was and is a a freakin' genius. :)

Uesugi Kenshin,
May the Beak be with you and forward for the Emperor!
The final touches are going on the Spartan Assault Tank, tonight. Hopefully I can get some pictures up before priming and painting get started.

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP20 Jul 2021 2:25 p.m. PST

I'm starting to worry that the new Beakies are going to be "True-scale" which would make them all but useless for the Horus Heresy.

Der Krieg Geist22 Jul 2021 6:19 a.m. PST

True scale to what? LOL… the original SM fluff showed them to be slightly gene boosted ,chem altered, brainwashed criminals, gangers and/or savages, hypo-indoctrinated to be the Emperors shock/terror troops. They were not supposed to be nine foot tall Uber -Mensch/Vampire/Were Wolf/ Space Monks. The Horus Heresy was admittedly, a throw away line in a box advert for Adeptus-Titanicus to disguise the fact that GW/Citadel could not afford to have tooling to be made for multiple Titans so justified selling the same models for both sides, in their game. :D
Think of the cheerful side, all of the owners of older Mk6 Corvus armor troops that will abandon and sell them when they are convinced they "must have" the new rescaled(for the fifth time" SMs. A wind fall for older collectors, I'm sure.
Besides… " The Horus Heresy" was supposed to have been fought( in Fluff) in MK5 "Heresy Armor" mostly…..good luck finding enough of them to build a descent force.
Enjoy your hobby brother and don't take any of it too seriously if it diminishes your fun. I got into Science Fiction and Fantasy gaming because I was tired of the button/ rivet counting, uniform/formation/ tactic snobs that ruined nearly every game I ever played in( that they mostly managed to lose at… LOL) at conventions and hobby shops .
I will be damned if I let the same pedantry ruin all the fun in this part of the hobby too. Don't let them jerk your chain either :) It is all made up and can be what ever pleases you. Just enjoy yourself my man.

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP23 Jul 2021 12:28 p.m. PST

Here's another possible "true scale" problem mini. This guy looks to be about a foot taller than all of the current HH minis.

Won't know for sure until he's officially released.

Der Krieg Geist24 Jul 2021 2:57 a.m. PST

They also look like MK4 and not MK6. I see no indication of how big they are as I see no comparisons to any other miniatures. However I have to agree that if size is your concern then it will probably be justified . GW has had scale creep issues for years.
I for one have more issues with the over reliance on sculpted on Iconography than how tall they are. I have been filing/ shaving that stuff off of my miniatures for years. The more they add the less likely I will ever purchase anymore of them. And I happen to like MK4 "Maximus" Armor.
My preferences go:
1 MK6 Corvus
2 MK8 Errant
3 MK4 Maximus
4 MK5 Heresy
5 MK7 Aquila

Don't have much opinions of the rest beside no desire to model them.
If I were going to play Crusade era games I would just use MK6 Beakies because they are the coolest to me, of the older designs. :D

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP24 Jul 2021 6:37 p.m. PST

The Alpha Legion Minis are definitely Classic Mk6. Beakie helmet and no rim on the shoulder pads, pointy shin guards.

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP24 Jul 2021 8:06 p.m. PST

Sorry Geist, I was looking at the original picture.

Yes, the SoH Praetor doe look like a form of Mk4.

Der Krieg Geist27 Jul 2021 10:21 a.m. PST

No need to apologize. :) I didn't think we were having a disagreement, just sharing ideas and opinions.
I looked over all the HH era stuff and I really only like the Legion tanks and Battle Automata, the rest is to festooned with iconography and nonsensical close combat equipment designs for my taste.

All WH40K/30K stuff would be vastly cooler in my eyes if guns/ ranged weapons worked better and the model designers understood the concepts of: shot traps, vehicle suspensions or even basic physics/ ballistics ectera… :D Some of their stuff is really cool if not over examined, but quite a bit of it is like hyperbole made manifest. LOL

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP27 Jul 2021 11:14 a.m. PST

Regardless of what we get re: minis this year, hopefully there be a new set of rules by the end of the year. It's been long overdue.

Great Googly Moogly….and they say you can't teach and old dog new tricks. :)

This was step one for creating my Spartan Assault Vehicle.

Der Krieg Geist28 Jul 2021 12:52 a.m. PST

So, long story short…. I never really liked the original plastic Land Raider model. It always looked to me like a child's toy tank and not a serious bit of fighting kit. I felt it was to tall height wise and to short front to back. I did however have the idea to lengthen one and add a larger crew compartment….in the back of my head, for years.
This model was a rescue job(three coats of thick acrylic paint) that was mostly complete except for one missing Hvy Bolter and a broken antenna. I got it as a free throw in, on a trade for some other RT Era stuff I wanted. I stripped it down and disassembled it as carefully as I could. It then languished in a parts box for more years than I care to admit to. :)

And..just incase anyone thinks I went nuts and used an eighty dollar Landraider IIB for the side builds, well no. They were two left side mispacked sprues from a LR Crusader that GW corrected by sending me a new complete kit. Been using the mis-pack for parts, for years :)

Der Krieg Geist28 Jul 2021 2:44 a.m. PST

Here is the rest of the WIP. Let me know if you guys are interested in this kind of stuff or if it is a bit much. :)

I tried multiple times to put them in order, but no go. the host sight shows them in order but they don't show up in here that way. Anyway….you can see the build process and the finished shots are obvious. Hope you all enjoy and I will add more pictures when the paint job is done :)
I did do my best to incorporate as much of the RT Era Land Raider parts as I possibly could.

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP28 Jul 2021 8:13 a.m. PST

Thats quite the project! Very inspiring!

Der Krieg Geist28 Jul 2021 10:18 a.m. PST

Uesugi, it was great fun to build. Although I had to fabricate quite a few parts out of plastic card and spare parts, I still think it was easier and more enjoyable to make than a Forge World model.
I don't own any of the later. They are notoriously poor fitting kits and I have built quite a few FW models as commission jobs for others. I like the looks of a lot of FW stuff but can't justify the cost of their models, to myself.
If you are interested in more 30K /40K stuff I've built, let me know. I would be happy to share more pictures. Although this is the first time I ever recorded WIP as I built, I could show some other models with before and after paint jobs, if you would like. :)
I get inspired by other peoples work and enthusiasm too! :D

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP28 Jul 2021 1:35 p.m. PST

Thanks Geist. I'm holding off on any 30k vehicles for the time being until we see what will be coming out in plastic by this December. Spartans and LR Proteus hopefully!

Good summary of the current info on a boxed set:
link

Der Krieg Geist29 Jul 2021 10:36 p.m. PST

Those definitely look to be MK6 Beakies and Spartan Assault Tank. :) The only Retro terminators I would be interested in would be a resized Jes Godwin Proto-Type termy :D
I don't really like any of the "New" designed " retconned Terminators.
I am in agreement, I could dig having a couple of Land Raider Proteus Tanks also.(so much nicer than the original RT LR) But, I will probably end up scratch building them when I get around to scratch building a couple of Sicaran tanks.

Der Krieg Geist29 Jul 2021 11:14 p.m. PST

I did notice that the proportions on those MK6s look a bit off to me, like the helmets are to small and the shoulder puldrons are to large. Maybe I am just used to the older ones?

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP04 Aug 2021 7:50 p.m. PST

The new word on the street is the Kill Team 2.0 will be available for pre-order on the 14th, arrives around September 1st.

New plastic kits to follow.

Capt Flash12 Sep 2021 4:48 p.m. PST

Hmmmm I just sold my Burning Of Prospero and Betrayal at Calth boxed games.
Maybe it's a good time to unload everything else I have Heresy related.
Although, if they do indeed stick to the 7th edition rules, I might get back to playing…

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP14 Sep 2021 9:45 a.m. PST

I'm definitely hoping for an update to the rules. I think it should be in line with 9th or it will always be looked at as a niche game.
