They need real jets too and not those worthless J-15s. |

A lot of the problems with the J-15 actually come from a) having to operate from a ski jump, b) problems with Chinese engines. The Su-27 base aircraft is very capable, and they are putting a lot of money and research into catapults. |

Ski jumps are no good for launching heavily armed jets with sufficient fuel to be useful.. Best system is still the old fashioned steam catapult. IMO these Chinese carriers are "fly the flag"/national pride token force of virtually no use in a real war (same with Indian, Italian and Spanish ones as well as that border line derelict Russian carrier). They'd be better off pouring that money into more subs and long range missiles. |
