I'm tossing up if I want to paint my Aztec shield designs free-hand, and go insane in the process, or make up transfers or similar which may be beyond my skills. Maybe I'll just try some outdoor public cardiac surgery and see if the gods provide advice.

Free-hand them for sure. Embrace the insanity. I did it for Vikings and I'm still mostly able to function.
