I'm getting ready to start some 20mm US GI's with the early war uniform. I'll probabably be using Vallejo and using Khaki for Jacket and Leggings, with Field Drab for the pants and Brown Violet for the helmet.

I'm stuck however on the web gear. I've seen and heard all kinds of different opinions for it's color; from Khaki,to Green Grey, to Green Ochre to any other number of non-Vallejo colors.

So I'd be happy for any input you'd care to share as to what the actual historically correct color is, or conversely what color you may prefer to use in it's place. I know I should just pick a color that I like and go with that but that would be just too easy, wouldn't it?grin

Thanks in advance.

I use a khaki or even desert yellow for web gear on my 20mm figs

I just paint it the same colour as my US re enactor pals webbing. A sort of pale yellowish tan/ochre. I guess VJ Middlestone would be close enough. I've got an old pot of GW Bubonic Brown which I use.

Worth remembering that uniforms don't last long under field conditions--and the US Services of Supply were quite good about providing new--while web gear can last for a generation. Chances are good that on VE Day, a higher percentage of ETO/MTO web gear had served in North Africa than the percentage of soldiers.

The color of whatever dust or mud happens to be in the area.
