I've just bought some of the LKM Penal legionaries, as well as their Carthaginians with Roman armour (also empty handed). The Carths are particularly nice figs, Mind you, mine are going to be part of a Spartacus' revolt army.

I am Spartacus, and I have the tee-shirt to prove it!

No Swampster, I am Spartacus and so is he and him and her and you as well! Where will it end? I have not painted my LKM Penals yet but am thinking of using them for Celtiberians.
Glad you liked the figures.

"Nonetheless i still cannot think of a good reason why there would not be Pike in Chainmail, so if anyone knows a very good figure that is suitable, let me know."

I don't know if anyone answered this, as I didn't slog through the entire thread, but Minifigs makes these guys in 15mm, and they are straight out of the Connelly book.

For the imitation legion I liked the Old Glory Carthaginian in mail. There would be plenty at hand as Romans were killed. Also I gave them throwing spears. I doubt many usable pila were recovered after a battle. Simple red tunics, bronze helms and plain white Roman-type shields. I haven't decided on a shield design or if they should even have one at all. They look fine plain. They are a nice contrast to the mixed trouser wearing and bare legged phalanx. Scythian and Sarmation horse looks great and I am planning on including some Dacian types for the rest. Parthian archers might be a nice addition, but I don't know. Skirmishing Dacians with bows may work as well.

It's been a long time since we had a good pants thread like this…

We used to talk about tunics and trousers, or Spartan use (Or not) of Linothorax, every day. I miss it…

By curious co-incidence my lot will be gaming the 86BC Chaeronea tomorrow!

Simon – look forward to the official accounts (one Roman and the other Pontic) in the Battle Reports.

Cheers

Hi Garry, we may or may not play the figure game tomorrow (some of my mates may not be able to make it). If they can't, I'll do a dry run with the C&C blocks.

Curiously I have found 3 C&C scenarios for Chaeronea; all wildly different! I'm writing my own based on my reading of Plutarch.

Cheers, Simon

According to the cover painting of my old paperback edition of the (otherwise excellent) Alfred Duggan 'He Died Old', Mithridates dressed like Santa Claus and used stirrups…

I think Mithridates' problem was he was wearing the wrong trousers.
