…. Last Year? "The prospect of AI-led warfare is inching ever closer if events in Libya last year are anything to go by. Despite calls for a ban, killer robots present a terrifying, apocalyptic vision of lawless conflict in the future. When I was studying international human rights law at university almost a decade ago, I recall our lecturer stating that experts anticipate military enthusiasts to have fully developed killer robot technology within the next 20 years. Those predictions seem to be fairly accurate thus far, as recent developments suggest we are more or less halfway down this pathway, if not further…" YouTube link Main page link

Can you imagine the nightmare scenario when this technology falls into the hands of the people who hound us all relentlessly about renewing our vehicle extended warranties over the phone? Every morning you look outside and there are 5 drones peering in your kitchen window. You drive to work pursued by 2 teeth whitening drones, a burial plot drone, a lower your credit card interest drone and a collecting for the Red Cross drone. In no time we must all subscribe to hunter-killer drone services that run interference for us. Lo, I beheld a pale drone, and special offers followed with it. |

<shudder> Reminds me of the scene in "Minority Report" where Tom Cruise is walking into a mall and holographic ads pop up calling him by name. |

Drones in modern warfare under direct human control have been hunting down & killing human targets[and even AFVs. etc.] for quite some time. E.g. in A'stan with the Taliban, AQ, etc. Many of us has seen some of the footage. Seems like a fairly safe and effective way to "service enemy targets with extreme prejudice."… What's not to like? Now has a drone, AI, 'bot, etc., execute "HK" missions? If not … it will … As long as it kills our "enemies", and limits our losses to as close to 0 as possible, again I see no problem with it. I think regardless of what we read or see in Sci-fi, etc. I think we will always have some control … But I'm not a tech guy … so … |

Legion 4, in the west there will always be an air gap between observing the target and pressing the trigger. The air gap will be filled with a commander and lawyer who will make the final call. But remember to many a meeting of insurgents that is targeted suddenly transforms into a a wedding full of civilians and charity workers! Tally Ho! |

I was listening to a story about this incident and it led to talk of AI eventually taking over and the tech brains who think about this kind of thing determined humanity will be wiped out, not a Terminator style battle for survival. |
