Hi everybody, What would be your rules of choice for large napoleonic skirmish set in Spain? Let's say 30-50 figures each side, easy to grasp will be a bonus, we didn't play for a while and if the rules include some siege elements even better, think Zaragoza. - Song of shako & drum don't support, I guess, such number of miniatures - I' not sure about Sharpe Practice - Chosen Men? Rebels & Patriots? Thanks a lot in advance for any hint ! Regards |

We use Rebels and Patriots. Lots of fun without lots of headaches. |

Sharp practice. Close order units can be and better be made of several groups which de facto makes them not more time consuming or complicated to handle than a group of 6 figs. Which means you can easily have 4-6 "units a side" but altogether 60-80 figs. A tool easy to twist a bit to suit your needs and very interactive and with high replay. Use a system you can find on the net to have only one dice throw for buckets of dice, it will hasten resolutions. You can instill in a dose of roleplay, the Clarkieman even has a system sold to create mini campaigns. What can you want? |

For me, I prefer Sharp Practice. Rebels and Patriots is a rather different beast, but has the same order of figures per game. I suspect that most people would prefer one over the other, but without trying both engines, it's difficult to know which would suit you. You can use the same figures for both, so try one and if that doesn't suit you, try the other. |

If I get tempted enough to jump into skirmish level Napoleonics, the upcoming gothic horror Silver Bayonet by Osprey will likely be the culprit. And it will have to work well enough as straight up skirmish rules to really have a chance of pushing the temptation over the edge. link And Northstar is already showing work on Spanish figures for the game, which would be my preferred theatre too. |

Also for consideration: Shakos & Bayonets supplement for Muskets & Tomahawks. It's a core rulebook + period specific supplement rules system. Shakos & Bayonets is recently out, haven't seen it yet, but the FIW supplement Redcoats & Tomahawks for the FIW & AWI works very nicely, card driven system with a nice assortment of scenarios. |

Many thanks for all your suggestions, I will probably reduce the number of miniatures used each side. I'm trying to set-up a post-covid game so let's be not too ambitious here ! We didn't throw dices for a looong time, the goal is to have a quick set-up a lot of fun!! I will post some pictures and a report. Cheers |
