There was no easy way to make a new life for yourself in the 1800s. Not if you wanted to move, and not if you wanted to move a family. Passage by ship around the tip of South America was an expensive and dangerous option. Railroads? The transcontinental railroad wasn't completed until 1869, according to History. Stagecoach? Great find, Armand! I was(still am with the reruns) a big fan of the western tv show "Wagon Train". Watching each episode, I always think those had to be some awfully tough men, women and children to make that journey. Reading this, one wonders how we actually made it out West. Some really strong people.both physically and willed. thanks as always, Sam |
