The sad thing about social media is that it is so easy for people to make baseless accusations, motivated only by anger and bitterness. So let me address this. The owner of a rival website has posted on social media, accusing TMP of being anti-Muslim. The fact is that Editor Gwen, one of our former staff editors, made a post recently – TMP link – in which she said that Muslims were judgmental. Please keep in mind that Editor Gwen is Muslim. She posted that in a moment of frustration. She was visiting her mother, and was threatened with death if she did not leave the city. She later thought better of her remarks, and asked me to remove them. After all, she too is Muslim. (She was not aware at that time that others were criticizing her for what she said.) So, no, TMP is not anti-Muslim.P.S. We got her a ticket out of there. |

Never thought TMP was, so I would agree that the accusations are probably baseless. Speaking of which, did you hear that … |

If something that we have parades for can get you killed in another country, then I would say some folks have different values. We can disagree and I guess that we all make judgements. |

When Gay Pride parades can be held annually without incident in downtown Tehran, Damascus, Baghdad, Riyadh, and Beirut, then this will no longer be an issue. |

I'm anti-throwing people off rooftops, anti-death penalty, treating women as animals or property, forcing people to convert to your philosophy or death, violating people's Constitutional Rights, and anti-slavery. I try to judge people by the content of their character and how they treat others as any discipline or philosophy has good and bad practitioners. Good luck to Gwen. Wolfhag |

Thanks guys but I can't claim I've been 100% faithful to that as I'm still a work in progress but I am learning patience in my old age. In 2013 we partnered with Chris Lewis (Jerry Lewis son) and his American Wheelchair Mission to distribute more than 1,000 wheelchairs, 412 pairs of crutches, 406 canes, and 200 walkers to needy recipients in Bulacan, Manila, and Naga City on the Island of Luzon and Davao City on the Island of Mindanao. Christian, Catholic, and Muslim alike. It's amazing how something like a wheelchair can positively impact an entire family. We did fundraisers with local clubs, non-profits and church organizations. Much of the funds raised were from individuals collecting up recycled materials and turning them in for cash. We've also done the same program in Mexico and the Holy Land. Anyone can do this, contact: amwheelchair.org Wolfhag |

Is it even worth responding to such accusations on-line? It only fuels the debate. This is the peril of social media and why so many folk of my generation, who contribute regularly here, will never get involved with Facebook or the like. I tried to point out in the original posting that you had made a mistake and it was unwise to phrase the comment as posted. It was totally understandable, none of us can avoid feeling prejudices, based on our lives' experiences. But we must simply not apply them to all members of any religion, race, sexual orientation etc. The US military has many Islam adherents, two of my most reliable anaesthetists were devout Muslims who would work way beyond what was knocking off time for most of their colleagues if that was needed. This only needs one sentence to solve this. "We are sorry, we made a mistake, we got this wrong and did not mean to apply this to all members of any one faith" How much more respect that might inspire?…..but in the days of Social Media I do admit I might be wrong |

People are judgmental. Therefore, Muslims are judgmental. So is everyone else. |

I think being judgmental is a natural survival technique. I think it's natural to consciously or unconsciously evaluate and categorize someone if they represent a threat or are they a member of your "tribe". This includes "Street Smarts" and gut feelings. If someone or something looks out of place it can be perceived as a threat. In some societies, if they are not a member of your tribe, gang, neighborhood, group, ethnic makeup, etc they are fair game for persecution, harassment, or even death. In most societies, non-members are protected by civil rights which are supposed to allow them the ability to exist alongside non-tribal members on a more or less equal basis. Unfortunately, no all tribal members respect the rights of non-members. That's when we run into trouble, also when society decides not to enforce the law too. Wolfhag |

People are judgmental. Therefore, Muslims are judgmental. So is everyone else. There is no doubt about that … and it seems it is getting worse … across the board/planet, etc. Again Wolf +1, etc.

Progress, and 'progressive thinking, isn't a linear learning curve. SO don't expect tribal and a thousand years of affiliations and learning to change overnight-… we see it all over the planet. My father went to war because he was told he needed to contribute to the greater peace, well, 80 years later and I'm still waiting- he never will see it. Violence is countered with education, and enlightenmenat- theirs, not ours… |

I concur with SHaT1984. When I was a kid I had a few afternoon paper routes. One in a Jewish neighborhood and one in a neighborhood like mine. Since I was a stranger/trespasser I got harassed by both. I finally got fed up and got off my bike and went up to the leader of the bullies and did a ground and pound number on him. His lackeys did nothing. It was smooth sailing on my route after that. Does that make me anti-Semitic? When I was in the Marines as VN was winding down we had some pretty intense racial situations. What seemed to work best to defuse the situation was to find some common ground (sports, experiences, geographic locations we're familiar with, hometowns, etc) that opened up communications and build from there. It normally worked if both sides gave it a chance. As I got to know guys on the "other side" I gained a better understanding of how and why their experiences formed their behavior. That helped in finding common ground. It works both ways. Wolfhag |
