First thing is just how good is the casting and painting?

She looks Asiatic and female, the latter is not always managed.

Armed as she surely is, but dressed in brilliant white as an amazing target, not taking aim….

OK, maybe just for once, I will concede Legion 4's doubts. They could not all have been VC though, or else the North could never have finally overcome the South in 1975…oh but, in the end…..heck, they did.

In the countryside were they all VC? Discuss. In the cities were they all future boat people? You bet. The latter, those who had some choice in resisting the Northern invasion

Guesstimate.

In the South,

20% supported the NLF.

10% supported the GVN.

70% just wanted it to stop.

When the US/ARVN/ROK killed a civilian, accidentally, recklessly or deliberately/maliciously it served to recruit others to the NLF. This is the age old conundrum of any guerilla war.

The NLF did use villagers as human shields. It is the fish in water strategy coined by Mao. You can't blame them for doing this really, it was the only way to have any chance of winning, though it does show a callous disregard for human life.

White 'pops' on the table top but is not a practical colour. Peasants normally wear black or dark blue in the fields today. White is no more effective as a sun screen than black – according to tests I heard about [on QI!]

Some might have worn white of course.

What's the rifle? A Moisin Nagant or Arisaka would be common. Looks like a french one but it's bolt action. Could be a pre-WW2 one of course.

Sounds reasonable, but at the time or even now, I don't think we'll ever really know.

Yes that is the standard for COIN. We see the same in A'stan & Iraq …

I thought was a French MAS '39. Again been awhile since I studied all those weapons used in Vietnam/SE Asia … And there were many, many types from all over the world.
