France has around 5,100 troops in the region under its so-called Barkhane operation which spans five countries in the Sahel -- Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger. He should pull them out. Mali is France's version of Afghanistan, except the Malinese government doesn't even pretend to be a democracy especially after the latest coup last week (and some guy on here was defending Mali's military a while back as good patriots – they took over in 2020 and have now rolled back any transition to civilian rule). |
