… Beam It To Earth

"Around two months ago, Space.com reported that a US military space plane is being tested to gather space solar power from the Sun while flying on Earth's orbit.

The classified mission of the X-37B robotic space plane of the US Space Force flew past 300 days in Earth's orbit that is said to carry the research Photovoltaic Radio-frequency Antenna Module Flight Experiment (PRAM-FX) that investigates transforming solar energy and convert it into RF power…"

Wasn't there a James Bond movie with this weapon?

I think it's to beam sunlight to the nightside of Earth so that solar-powered ships, tanks, etc can operate, as the US military is slowly being converted to "green energy"/"carbon-free" power sources… ;-)

Death ray here we come!

Transmitted power from orbiting solar farms was going to be 'thing' according to the kids futurology books (Usborne?) I used to read in the 70s and 80s. Personally I would have thought it would had more civil than military application – not withstanding trying to build some kind of sunbeam weapon!

Yea, imagine what one of those rays will do to the fuselage or wings of a passenger airliner, or its fuel tanks.

Of course, flocks of birds, and many other things WILL be adversely impacted too.

A slight wobble in the emitter satellite, or solar mirror, perhaps brought on by a space junk strike, and a village, town, forest, or city is destroyed.

Ah, the minor trials and tribulations of an advanced, future, sophisticated society.

I'm just waiting for the autonomously piloted solar beam space plane.

What could possibly go wrong?
