I was a little surprised a number of years ago when I found the Vietnam veterans memorial in Windsor. |

Yes, I have posted this before too … I had read/heard over 30,000 Canadians came to the USA to volunteer to fight in Vietnam. As it was a proxy war against the spread of Russian and PRC/CCP Communism. Which puts those from the US who fled to Canada even in a worse light IMO. The US got the better end of the deal … |

Was in a PTSD group with a great Canadian who was promised US citizenship but never got it |

Most suspect closer to 50, 000 and even higher given the dual citizenship, as well as getting draft notices if you even just had a US work visa. If you think those numbers are good, you should look at how many Canadians joined up for the US Civil War. Four became generals. Happy Memorial Day 'merica. Remember why it is. |

There must have been almost as many reasons as volunteers. I'd bet many just wanted the adventure. While some people serve an entire career in the military, never see combat and are very glad not to have, others are deeply disappointed not to have. It's kind of the point for them of joining up. I would be interested in a survey of the survivors of this group that dug into the why of the whole thing. I wonder if the numbers tailed off when the reality of the war broke too. I have not read the link but will now. Skimmed it – general news article. I'm more keen to read a scholarly report that has some harder data. It's useful to have articles like this too….I just want something more incisive. |

On active duty I had the honor of working side by side with Canadian officers. They are to a man (and woman) first class. I also had the honor of attending the Canadian Forces Staff College in Toronto and then teach at the Staff College in Kingston. All of this first class. Cheers to all my Canadian comrades in arms!
