Finally, after more than a century, Germany has acknowledged the genocide it committed against the Herero and Nama people of Namibia in 1904-08, the first genocides of the twentieth century:

Germany is also establishing a fund of 1.1 billion euros to support reconstruction and development in Namibia.

I do research and write books and essays on the Herero and Nama wars of resistance against German colonialism, specifically the Herero War of 1904 and the Nama War of 1904-08. So, this news has a lot of emotional significance for me.

Justice for the Herero and Nama people may have been delayed, for more than a hundred years, but in the end it will not be denied.

Interesting, thanks.

I was just reading and article about the literal erasing of the history of the Tulsa race massacre; glad to see Germany acknowledging that this massacre--genocide--happened.

Just watched a piece about this on Al Jazeera. Certainly well covered up as I had not heard of it before.
However, one Herero descendent interviewed expressed concern that the money would go to the wrong people as the Namibian government is "corrupt".
Let's hope that is not the case and the descendants are the people who end up benefiting.

Hmmm, no reparations, since this would have admitted genocide under UN conventions. Just a lot of money over the next ten years for "projects". Not sure that's really justice?

I'm glad Germany did this as a German myself.I believe it is being done to protect the German farmers in Namibia. Now that this is done, can all the tribes of southern africa get compensation from the ZULU nation? No that won;t happen.Roy I am genuinely happy for you, what happened back then ,went beyond war.Love your games and Rule supplements.

The irony is that the only way the money will get to the people who actually deserve it would be if the Germans step back in a take control. Sorry if that shows very little faith in the current government.

This is a good start, glad to hear it. However when people say they didn't know about Germany in southwest Africa it's only because they haven't read about it. There's so much history that people don't know about if they haven't actually tried to study that particular piece of history.

Coming up next …..

Republic of Congo claims against King Leopold of Belgium and the City of London international investment banking community.

Followed by the Zulu nation seeking compensation from Great Britain

Followed by Korea demanding reparations from Japan and Mongolia.

then Brazil filing for slavery reparations against Portugal and Central America filing against Spain for genocide.

then most of eastern and central Europe and the Mideast against whoever legally represents the Mongols state nowadays.

Maybe the Cattars (if any survive) can claim against France and the Vatican on the basis of genocide.

Cn Israel claim against Italy as

Reparation claims look like they might be a new and highly lucrative field to pursue …..

I hear the Trojans are suing the Greeks! All kidding aside it was terrible what happen to those people but it doesn't help those people. Those people are long gone.Has the Germans paid them for stealing their land in the first place? This can go on on and on as every country in the world has done wrong to other peoples.
