So a while back I set out to scratchbuild a 1/700 Oklahoma. Did not feel like paying $100 USD+ for the Midship models kit if I could even find one. Even went so far as to start the hull before I thought.. Hmmmmmmm. Oklahoma is basically a reduced Pennsylvania and shares a lot of components, and the hull is the same but shorter and less beamier. The main difference in length comes at the ends, from the barbettes forward and aft, while the midships are about the same, so I thought… (most of the pics came out small so you can see the originals here: link Revell made an Arizona kit in 1/720:
And Hobby Boss makes an Arizona in 1/700:
I wonder how the 1/720 Revell hull scales out in 1/700…. yup… EXACTLY the dimensions of Oklahoma. So… taking a Revell 1/720 hull and Hobby Boss components, and a little scratchbuilding, and you get…voila… Oklahoma.
BTY, I have also used this Hobby Boss kit to kitbash Pennsylvania as originally built.

Yes, nice work and clever too. I've always liked 1/700 scale models. After spending a great deal of time acquiring old knees, how does one go about gaming with these beauties? |
