I disagree.
"So say we all!"

The classic was pretty campy, but I liked the spacefighters.

The rebooted fighters and Cylon Baseships were far better, and Tricia Helfer as "Six" raised the bar for the Cylons and series, as far as hot women/cyborgs/synths is concerned.

Hard to do when Jane Seymour and others who were in the original series.

I really enjoyed the first four seasons of the reboot. But it nose dived into the dirt in season 5. And I loved the original as a kid, campy sci-fi!

Even with the camp, the classic show is better.
For me the reboot nose-dived into the dirt when they arrived at the mud planet and got off the ship, and subsequently surrendered to the Cylons. Gave up on the series at that point— and I was already sick of the over-the-top sex and the soap opera faux relationship drama. Blech. Gimme chrome robots, blasters, and space dogfights over that any day of the week.
I'll watch the classic show over and over. I've seen the reboot (halfway). No desire to finish it, and zero interest in watching it again.

I watched the original series fervently in the hope a Cylon would blast that stupid robot dog.

The original had troubles, but the reboot lost me at the pilot. Good actors--people I'd enjoyed elsewhere--in uninteresting or unsatisfactory roles. And while SF inevitably reflects the period in which it's written, the reboot positively reeked of its era--which plays hob with suspension of disbelief. I could never forget it was early 21st Century California long enough to think of it as being elsewhere.

A pity. Only really four serious video space opera universes--five counting The Expanse--so it's a serious annoyance when one goes dark or has a bad run.

I hated that "stupid robot dog" as well! Muffy? Muffit?

I did have to take a break partway through nuBSG, because I felt like I needed therapy. It was so dark!

StarCruiser25 May 2021 5:55 p.m. PST

Yep – the angst was palpable to the extreme in nuBSG. Just too dark and seemed humorless compared to the original show.

The original definitely had it's problems since it was such an expensive show to produce. The writing had it's strong points but, it did come off as campy compared to more serious Sci-Fi, even of it's own era.

As a teen firmly addicted to Sci-Fi (had been since Star Trek), it filled the need at the moment. Occasionally, I can sit and watch it but, never could get into nuBSG…

Never really 'had the chance' to watch original… but the Kid, The Dog, Starbuck and 'Bonanza' Lorn green… and, (might be wrong, but 'think' I remember?), repeated footage of Cylon fighter… has never made me want to revisit.
Bought the Reboot DVD set as a Very Long Watch.
LIKED it… apart from too much concentration on 'issues'… until about half way through, when things began to go 'weird'. Jimi Hendrix???
First 'Large'ish' TV set… so space combat was WOW! for me! lol.
Final series was a disappointment… to say the least!
Characters…I ended up 'rooting' for the Cylons!!!
