Ok, I think I finally figured out how to upload pictures, thanks to some advice from Mr. Extracrispy. Lasalle here began life as an Airfix US Cavalry figure in HO scale, created probably in 1968. In his current guise, on his original horse, he has extra tack on the horse made of paper, a shabraque and baggy trousers made of modeling clay and epoxy (I hadn't discovered green stuff yet – Hell, it wasn't even invented yet). His arm was straightened with a lit match at his elbow, which also accidentally converted his saber to a pistol. I recreated the saber hanging from its strap with model kit sprue. His hat – one of the best I ever made – was made of paper, and just last week I added the genuine feather plumage as the final touch. I hope you like him. He's quite old.

So far, so good. Can anyone tell me how to make these pictures bigger? |

Oh, and the extra pelisse fur was also modeling clay and epoxy. |

Very nice. Even with the small pictures, those looked like real feathers on the hat. |

So far, so good. Can anyone tell me how to make these pictures bigger? If you were to resize the picture to make it bigger there would be a loss of quality which might not be desirable. If you need bigger pictures then the best way is to capture them in the size that you want or even bigger. Adjusting your camera/camera phone is the way to do that. Once you have a bigger image it is easy to downsize it without much loss of quality. An image width of 800 is fine for most web pictures and a width of 1024 is a bit better. Nice modelling by the way.

Nice but. the pics need to be bigger. |

I'm just a beginner with this phone camera, but it does provide amazing detail on small objects close up. I'll try to see if I can adjust the image width to 1024. Thanks for the tip, Jim. |

This thread makes curious reading: 1. OP has been inquiring how to upload pictures. 2. OP writes "Ok, I think I finally figured out how to upload pictures" 3. OP writes "So far, so good. Can anyone tell me how to make these pictures bigger?" 4. Someone writes "Very nice. Even with the small pictures" 5. Someone answers OP on how to make pictures bigger 6. Someone writes "Nice but. the pics need to be bigger." . . . Cheers, John |

Generals de Brigade wore black plumage on their hats. Generals de Division wore white plumage. "Marshal" is not a military rank. Lasalle is here in his later career, as a General de Division. |

General de Brigade
General de Division |

"However, sorry to say- ordinary generals don't get the white ostritch plumage in white!" You have said this before. However, sorry to say – you are still wrong. |

As you wish… I don't see any portraiture of Lasalle in any such form; not even Detaille:-
Who's your second general doing a MOnty Python? "here is the holy grail" pose? >>"Marshal" is not a military rank. I didn't state it was; I was referencing marshals and Genereaux en Chef. If you choose to use a reproduction uniform for the GBD, why not the GDV. Anyway, sorry to disturb your party… |

Dave, Pretty sure that is General de Division Gazan link A second portrait depicting General Gazan at the battle of Dürenstein, 11 November 1805, by Charles Nègre.
Btw, well done on Lasalle Widowson. He is one of my favorite cavalry generals and you did a great job! Michael |

I've seen the picture of Lasalle before. I've been doing this since before 1970. I'm sure he wore whatever he wanted to. I doubt he would have cared what your opinion was. Generals de Division – white plumage REGULATION. Generals de Brigade – black plumage REGULATION. Does that make you any happier? No need to answer. I already know the answer to the question. Sometimes, Generals de Division commanded army corps, without being Marshals of the Empire. Corps commanding Marshals of the Empire were also Generals de Division. That was their military rank. There were one or two marshals who did not even command troops. Do you need me to quote sources? Thanks, Michael. |

And since when is Detaille a primary source? He wasn't even alive in the Napoleonic era, was he? |

Michael, It is indeed a portrait of General Gazan. Good catch! |
Widowson | 25 May 2021 9:44 p.m. PST |
In case it's too small for you to read, 1., the figure on the left, is a "General de Brigade." Note the black plumage on his hat. Maybe not as good a reference as Detaille, but I can find more if you like. |

I wasn't going to bother, but since the facts don't matter much;- - Gazan appears [to me] dressed as a Lt.General of the Restoration it would appears from: a blue sash (Not the LoH) and a 'blue back cross' on his chest; different and smaller embroidery than Empire. Ergo, GDV labeled incorrectly. Secondly Négre wasnt contemporary either, he wasn't born until just before Gazan died. He neither gets mentioned for the paintings. The 'Durenstein painting' appears to be Empire uniform, the chapeau on the ground. >>Generals de Division –_____ REGULATION. Not according to the Malibran nor Rousellot records of them… I shan't go further, my own affaires are waiting… Happy days__ |
