Finished finally every unit of Wallmoden's 1814 Corp, shame they will never get to fight as one unit because my Prussian and British/ allies are fighting Russia. But except the Russian units they will all be in one Corp with additional Prussians.

Left side is Hussar squad du Bremin etc Verdun
Right side lastly finished is Regiment du Hussars du Luneberg, and in rear Jager Corp.

Nice – having no lead to paint is a place I can never seeing myself in

And Empire III has them at Landwehr and ACE 10
Really? Worse than Cossacks.

Musketballs22 May 2021 8:40 p.m. PST

If it's the same as Empire V, it only lists them for the year 1815.

Which suggests that your poor guys are undergoing collective ratings punishment for the sins of the Cumberland Hussars.

Empire III is the only Empire rules I am semi familiar with from the late 70's at a gaming convention in Tampa…

>>Really? Worse than Cossacks.

Gee I wish I could get away with such small nice looking units. But I don't like chess much, nor 'tokenism'…

Well I'm really disturbed that people bother to complain about rules that categorise troops. Just make your own decisions! Set your own criteria etc.

There's absolutely no god-like knowledge of everything that is accurate in gaming terms- these are subjective assessments made and needn't be taken as gospel.

As if to bite my own foot- I absolutely deny that French Legere were an 'elite' class of troop.

Cossacks are rated Landwehr 11 Ace, one of mine is 12 for a battle honor.
I do bump up or down moral ratings by a point for game actions worthy of it.

Only one dedicated substitution is 1st KGL Hussars in place of 3rd KGL Hussars, I'd toss them in stripper in a heartbeat but figures have busby not shakos

>>Cossacks are rated Landwehr 11 Ace,

Cossacks- a feudal and mostly nomadic type race of agrarian warriors- have virtually nothing in common with;
==Landwehr 11 Ace<<, no idea what that nomenclature means as E3 was my last 90's effort.

Landwehr- a dynastic empirical and rather cynical use of mass hysteria within an 'educated' and motivated populace based on major centres; driven by the 20-somethings desire for change and revenge (getting the latter only)…

I realise some people who have never read history or studied it (not you!) believe in 'rules' as a gospel (and play enchanted games as a result) is really a version of 'the dark side'. [I too was subsumed by it back then…].

Landwehr attempted to be 'trained' troops, pretending to be as good; cossacks largely marauders, always moving, with their own motivation (and one apparently undeniable 'belief').

Not sure how US authors miss the analogy of cossacks being more akin to native Indian tribes than US Cavalry, …
Anyway, time for a trip…

From my studying and reading, the Prussian Landwehr can be equated to a 'militia' type of force, albeit formed and governed by the Kingdom of Prussia rather than the individual states as the US militia was.

Initially the Landwehr was very poorly equipped and marginally trained. In use with the three main Prussian line corps (I, II, and III) [Note: corps is spelled with a final 's' even though that consonant is not pronounced. It is a French word after all and French doesn't pronounce a lot of final consonants.] after the armistice in 1813, they progressively improved by dint of some hard fighting and even more hard winnowing while on campaign. By the battles around Leipzig, at least the I and III Korps Landwehr were as good as the regular line and reserve infantry regiments.

However the Landwehr in the Wallmoden Corps didn't get the battlefield and campaigning experience like the others. But they were battlefield troops, not 'petit guerre' troops like the Cossacks, so my thought is that they should be rated better than Cossacks.

My nickel's worth!

To try and explain Ace in Empire terms
Every unit has a rating, so Cossacks are Ace 11, Russian Uhlans are Ace 18, Hussars 20 and Curassiers 24, top of the list Chevalier Guard is 30.
