Interesting concept – as I recall General Dynamics tried to use this to market to Turkey and Egypt but that didn't pan out

Spending that much money and time on an upgrade did not pan out compared to just buying an Abrams or Leopard II.

I think it would have sold if there was a big European war and there was a huge need for tanks right away in the West. The conversion would have used facilities that would not detract from Abrams production.
