I coulda sworn I saw an ad for a new aliens game somewhere, and I thought it was going to include 28mm miniatures.

No, I'm not trying to start a rumor – the ad just sort of flew by while I was looking for something else and now I have time to check it out.

Anyone else heard anything about this? Kickstarter or something else?

There is, just google Aliens miniatures and you will find it. No idea if it is any good, but it is available.

Thresher0120 May 2021 7:15 p.m. PST

Yea, I don't know if it any good, but it looks okay, and the basic set includes the rules, 7 troops, and 16 aliens (a limited number of poses though, IIRC, e.g. 4, I think, from the box art).

Other sets are available too, e.g. eggs, 6 more squad members, and a heroes box set too, with even more figs.

Base set is reasonable, at around $60 USD, and $30 USD or so for the boxes ($15 for the eggs sets), so not too bad, though you really need ALL of them, which bumps up the base set considerably.

Not sure if there are any more aliens boxes/poses available.

I'd like to know how they measure up with the Clix aliens, and/or other Colonial Marines troops sets.

Gale Force Nine do an Aliens game complete with miniatures. I bought everything that I could lay my hands on. I've played once and we (the humans) got massacred. It didn't help that we got a rule wrong but can't wait to try it again. Here's a link if you're interested:

I believe that you can also buy the figures without the game if you want.

The game is fun and fast moving. Really a step above beer and pretzels.

What I will say is that the game goes well at first for the Marines, they slowly start getting overwhelmed and then when a higher gunnery skill marine misses a shot the massacre begins.

General,

I have it. I've painted up all the minis and I'll post some pictures over the week end.

Our game play experience is different than yours. I agree about the flow of the game, easy for the Marines at first but then the piling up begins. But we find it very slow moving, in the second scenario we fought for almost 2 hours in a choke point not moving, just shoot wave after wave.

With each character having special traits and equipment my wife finds it very confusing and difficult. To the point she won't play with us anymore.

It's not a bad game, but I don't think it's a game for casual fans of the movies…like the Leading Edge version was……

I've got the game and some of the extra mini sets. Haven't played the game yet. The aliens are nice. Torso halves, head (2 options), 2 arms, tail, and base. They fit ok with any 28mm I have but I'm not a purist. They are thin and have good detail, but they are light if that's a problem (all plastic).

WarWizard21 May 2021 4:32 a.m. PST

I have the game, played a couple of times, I think it is great. I think the rules are excellent. You can have a max of 6 co-operative players as the Marines.
It is very easy to change the pace of the game. Simply increase or decrease the number of blips deployed each turn. (Blips correspond to random number of Aliens that will appear when the blips are eventually spotted).
There are some really good how to play YouTube videos.

This is the best video rules run through that I have found so far. The author makes a negative comment about the rules in the beginning of the video, but I disagree that the rules are flawed. The rest of his video is excellent.

I have the main box set, the set of additional marines, and the terrain set with crate, eggs, and a couple of facehuggers , etc.

The figures are very nice, but don't need more than the core set and maybe the additional marines. There is a Heroes of Hadleys hope set which includes the same figures as in the two sets I mentioned.

Stalkey and Co21 May 2021 9:13 a.m. PST

didn't come up very easily on the web, actually, until I put Gale Force 9 in there also.

GF9 is promising a "huge restock" to distributors, but are no longer selling it themselves [directly].

I guess we will see about the restock!

Also, does anyone have the M577 APC?

williamb21 May 2021 9:52 a.m. PST

link has one in their federal army listing.

Chimpy21 May 2021 1:28 p.m. PST

I've got the GF9 M577 APC.

Some discussion here:

If you're assembling the aliens, I found that their tails are very fragile. I left extra sprue on them, drilled a hole in the alien body to insert this into and glued.

WarWizard21 May 2021 1:50 p.m. PST

I agree with Chimpy about the fragile Alien tails. I used the drilled method also, along with some green stuff to reinforce the tail.

Stalkey and Co21 May 2021 1:56 p.m. PST

Did you get it from GF9?

or thru a vendor?

I can't find it.

Chimpy21 May 2021 4:40 p.m. PST

Hi Stalkey

I got it on pre-order from "The Bunker" here in NZ which is an outlet for Battlefront/GF9. I don't know what their current availability is.

They dropped hints that it was going to be a limited run but that could have been to stimulate pre-orders. Worked on me :-)

Ghostrunner23 May 2021 7:41 a.m. PST

Got my sets painted and played thru the full expanded campaign.

Very challenging, in general.

I'll just offer that the experience cards from the ‘Absolute Bad@##es' expansion make a HUGE difference in the difficulty.

Pontifex23 May 2021 10:02 a.m. PST

I watched the Guerilla Miniatures' channel do a playthrough of the new boardgame; the first of the series is here:

YouTube link

The minis are sized close to Hasslefree's line – smaller than "Heroic 28" (GW, Malifaux, War Machine, etc) but larger than Infinity. I liked them enough to buy some of the minis off the shelf without buying the game. Appreciation goes to the folks above for the warning about the tails.

As for the game itself… eh, I dunno. I personally don't like too many cards in my miniatures games, and this game is a boardgame that just happens to be played with miniatures. So many cards… everything based on card draws and a few die rolls here and there…

However, I will end with a positive note. By today's standards, the minis are very fairly priced and affordable, and if you don't like board or card games, the figure sets still are a boon to the hobby. The miniature of Ripley carrying Newt – the pose right out of the movie right when the Queen leaves the elevator – is alone worth the price of the set it is in.

Considering the timing, I'd recommend the minis for Stargrave, for sure.

Beaky Nose28 May 2021 1:21 p.m. PST

I have mine and am just waiting to be able to play face to face to find out more. Put the minis togther tho and they are very nice.

Stalkey and Co19 Jun 2021 10:41 a.m. PST

Just got my copies of both games, the basic and the take your hands off her expansion. It looks very solid and lots of fun, reviews are great.

Definitely will be using the figs for other adventures, including Space Hulk!
